The Seahawks lead the NFC West by one game
The 49ers won five straight matchups against their rival
Favorites won four of five Thursday Night Football games thus far
The Seattle Seahawks will kick off Week 6 by hosting the San Francisco 49ers in an NFC West battle on Thursday Night Football.
The Niners reached the Super Bowl last season and are favored to win the NFC Championship, though they’re just 2-3 with losses in three of their last four games. They just blew a 10-point fourth-quarter lead against the Arizona Cardinals last Sunday and do not look as steady as they have for the past half-decade.
The Seahawks dropped back-to-back games after winning their first three to start the season. They should be healthier than they have been recently, which figures to help them restore the defensive solidarity they showed during Weeks 1-3.
Here, we will analyze the betting odds and share our favorite Seahawks vs. 49ers betting picks and player prop bets.

Team | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
San Francisco 49ers | -3.5 (-105) | -190 | Over 48.5 (-110) |
Seattle Seahawks | +3.5 (-115) | +!55 | Under 48.5 (-110) |
The Seahawks adopted the image of their head coach, Mike MacDonald, the defensive coordinator of the Baltimore Ravens’ historic defense of a year ago and at the University of Michigan in years prior. They held teams to the seventh-fewest yards per play (5.0) and are ninth in third-down conversion percentage allowed, yet they’re just 17th in points allowed per game (22.8).
Geno Smith completed a career-high 71.9 percent of his passes and leads the league in passing yards (1,466), though he only has five touchdowns to four interceptions. The team is also 22nd in rushing yards per game (105.4) despite ranking seventh in yards per carry (5.0).
San Francisco’s trademark cast of All-Stars has fallen on hard times in the young season. Numerous players, including Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, Talanoa Hufanga, and Fred Warner, have battled injuries, and the team has not lived up to expectations on either side of the ball.
The biggest disappointment for the reigning NFC champions is the defense. They fell from being one of the three best units in the league to 13th in EPA per play, which is an enormous decline.
Underdogs have been great thus far, and there’s real value to betting on home teams during a short week. At the same time, favorites have dominated Thursday Night Football, and the trip from San Francisco to Seattle won’t affect the Niners players that greatly.
Seattle uncharacteristically gave up an average of 35.5 points over the last two weeks. That likely won’t happen again, though we also don’t believe the Niners will throw away a lead the same way they did against Arizona.

Aiyuk had his best game of the season last week as he caught eight passes for 147 yards against Arizona. He started the season slowly after an offseason full of contract disputes with the front office and is yet to catch a touchdown, but last week’s performance was an indication that he’s back to full fitness and ready to get on the scoreboard.

Mason went over this line in four of five games, including each of his last two against the Cardinals and the New England Patriots. He averaged 107.2 yards and 21 carries per game and should continue to get plenty of looks in an offense that is built on running the ball and setting up the play-action. The Seahawks also rank 18th in yards per rush attempt defended (4.5).

Smith played the Niners three times since the start of the 2022 season and never threw for more than 238 yards, twice failing to even hit the 200-yard barrier. He’s been asked to throw the ball a ton lately and went over in four straight games, but Seattle has quietly found success running the ball and would be wise to put more emphasis into controlling the clock.
