The AFC North has been busy through the first three weeks of the 2023 NFL Season, with several already divisional matchups taking place. The Baltimore Ravens (2-1) will take on the Cleveland Browns (2-1) in a matchup that will have massive AFC playoff implications.
Both the Ravens and the Browns have opened the early portion of the season with a divisional win over the Cincinnati Bengals. The Browns’ top-ranked defense will have the objective of halting one of the most dynamic offensive playmakers in Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson.

The Ravens are going full steam ahead of Jackson as the biggest contributor to the offense. He is a dangerous playmaker on the ground and in the air this season. While O'Dell Beckham's signing hasn't worked out so far this season, rookie slot receiver Zay Flowers has been a stellar weapon. Jackson, Flowers, wide receiver Nelson Agholor, and tight end Mark Andrews are a matchup nightmare.
If there is a defense that will be ready for Jackson, it will be the Browns. In his first season as defensive coordinator, Jim Schwartz has turned the Browns' defense into the best defense in the league. Cleveland ranks first in points allowed per game (10.7), passing yards allowed per game (111.7), and total yards allowed per game (163.7). They are also second in rushing yards allowed per game (52). Defensive end Myles Garrett has 10 quarterback hits and 4.5 sacks in three games this season.
The Browns have slowly developed that can score consistently despite struggles on the field from quarterback Deshaun Watson. Most of that was the star running attack of running back Nick Chubb, who suffered a torn MCL in week two. The Browns are turning to second-year running back Jerome Ford as the top option. Cleveland, however, are going to see how far they can go with the productivity of Watson. If he continues to struggle, the Browns are going to have a problem.
Baltimore has a highly efficient defense of their own. The Ravens are ranked eighth in points allowed per game (18.3) and 11th in total yards allowed per game (292.3) thanks to their ability to get to the quarterback, make key tackles and defend the passing game. The Ravens are seeing elite production from their defensive stars in safety Kyle Hamilton, outside linebacker Roquan Smith, and middle linebacker Patrick Queen.
It should be a given that Lamar Jackson is going to be a huge impact player for the Ravens' rushing offense. Through three games this season, he has rushed for 193 yards and two touchdowns on 32 carries. He is averaging 64.3 rushing yards per game. If his receivers are locked down, he may have to break the Browns' defense first down after first down with his legs.

In his first start since the season-ending injury to Nick Chubb, Jerome Ford was an ineffective rusher last week. In the Browns' 27-3 home win over the Tennessee Titans, Ford rushed for 18 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries. The Browns are facing a more efficient defense in the Ravens on Sunday than the Titans.
Future Pro Football Hall of Fame kicker Justin Tucker has had a tough streak in the past two games. He missed a 59-yard field goal late in the first quarter of the Ravens' week two 27-24 win at the Cincinnati Bengals. Last week, Tucker missed a 61-yard to give the Ravens a 22-19 lead with six seconds over in the 22-19 overtime loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
Tucker is looking to back on track as the most reliable kicker this season. He will have a great chance against this Browns team that will likely keep Baltimore from reaching the red zone or the endzone multiple times this game.
