Tua Tagovailoa has completed more than 80% of his passes over his last two games
The Miami defense has just 10 sacks and six forced turnovers in eight games this season
Los Angeles ranks 26th in the NFL with just 97.1 rushing yards per game
This week’s Monday Night Football game gives fans an intriguing inter-conference matchup between the Miami Dolphins and the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams have seemingly recovered from their sluggish start to the season. They’ve won three in a row and are in the midst of a tight race in the NFC West. Meanwhile, the Dolphins are in must-win territory at 2-6. With Tua Tagovailoa back from his latest concussion, the Dolphins have a glimmer of hope, but they need to start stringing wins together, making Monday’s game critical if they’re going to save their season.
Based on their records and the momentum the Rams have right now, Los Angeles would figure to be an obvious home favorite in this game. However, the Dolphins have come painfully close to winning in each of the past two weeks with Tagovailoa back. That has made this game a virtual toss up.
Here are the current betting odds for Monday’s Rams vs. Dolphins game from bet365 Sportsbook. Place your bets at bet365 and claim one of the following bonuses: $1,000 Safety Net Bet OR $150 in Bonus Bets.
Team | Spread | Moneyline | Over/Under |
---|---|---|---|
Miami Dolphins | +2.5 (-105) | +120 | Over 49 (-110) |
Los Angeles Rams | -2.5 (-115) | -140 | Under 49 (-110) |
Since Tua Tagovailoa returned from his latest concussion two weeks ago, the Dolphins have been hit by some bad fortune. They let a lead slip away from them against the Cardinals and then lost a back-and-forth game in Buffalo on a late field goal. But with Tagovailoa back, the Dolphins have played better and look due to get a win. Miami’s roster is too talented for the Dolphins to drop to 2-7 on the season. The odds for this game indicate it’s a virtual toss up, and at some point, one of these close games is bound to go Miami’s way.

In the two games Tagovailoa has played since suffering an early-season concussion, he’s completed over 80% of his passes with three touchdown passes and no interceptions. Unfortunately for the Dolphins, that hasn’t been enough to win a pair of close games. Nevertheless, the Miami offense is performing at a high level because Tagovailoa is providing competent play for a strong contingent of playmakers that includes De’Von Achane, Tyreek Hill, and Jaylen Waddle.
Miami’s biggest problem at the moment is a defense that has struggled just when the Miami offense is getting on track. At times, the Dolphins have played well defensively, as they managed to stay competitive in some of their losses while Tagovailoa was sidelined. However, collecting 10 sacks and forcing six turnovers over the first eight games of the season just isn’t going to cut it for Miami on that side of the ball.
The good news for the Dolphins is that the Rams aren’t particularly good defensively either. In their defense, the Los Angeles defense has come up with some big stops to survive in close games during the team’s current three-game winning streak. On the other hand, there is just one game this season in which the Rams have held a team below 20 points. Despite some promising talent in the front seven that has helped deliver sacks and generate turnovers, the Rams have been vulnerable against the pass this season.
Meanwhile, the Miami defense has actually held its own defending the pass, which could be a good omen for the Dolphins in this matchup. Of course, Matthew Stafford is no slouch at quarterback, especially with both Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua healthy and available. The Rams’ complementary receivers have also stepped up and produced this year. But the Rams are averaging just 3.8 yards per carry and less than 100 yards rushing on the ground this year. They will be forced to throw the ball to win on Monday night, putting them at a disadvantage against the Dolphins.
While he ranks second among running backs in rushing touchdowns, Williams isn’t even top 10 in rushing yards. As mentioned, the Rams are gaining less than 100 yards per game on the ground. While Williams regularly gets 20-plus carries, he’s been held below 82.5 rushing yards in four of his eight games this year. At just 3.7 yards per carry, even 20 carries may not get him over 80 yards. Also, despite the Dolphins losing three in a row, the opposing team’s leading rusher was held to 60 yards or less in all three of those games. It won’t be easy for Williams to do much better against the Miami defense this week.

Tagovailoa had two passing touchdowns against the Bills last week. It was the first time all season he’s thrown multiple touchdowns, although he’s only played three full games. With the receiving talent around him, Tagovailoa should continue to throw for multiple touchdown passes as he settles in after missing a month of action. It’s also worth mentioning that the Los Angeles defense has allowed 15 passing touchdowns in eight games. Even though they’ve won three in a row, the Rams have allowed multiple touchdown passes in back-to-back games. Sam Darnold and Geno Smith have combined for five touchdown passes against the Rams over the last two weeks, so there’s no reason to think Tagovailoa can’t do the same this week.

Since Tagovailoa returned, Achane has become a big part of Miami’s passing game. Part of his accuracy from the past two weeks stems from Tagovailoa throwing short passes, which has gotten Achane involved more in the passing game. He’s accumulated at least 50 receiving yards in back-to-back games, turning 14 catches into 108 yards during that stretch. Achane was also heavily involved in the passing game early in the season before Tagovailoa got hurt. There is every reason to believe the Dolphins will continue to utilize him in the passing game, allowing Achane to easily surpass 39.5 receiving yards.
