Monday Night Football Prop Bets Week 2: Expect Kirk Cousins to Continue to Struggle

  • Kirk Cousins threw two interceptions against Pittsburgh's defense in his debut with the Falcons

  • Cousins looked noticeably less than 100% in his return from last year’s season ending injury

  • The Eagles defense held Jordan Love to just a 50% completion rate

The Atlanta Falcons came into the season with plenty of hype after the acquisition of Kirk Cousins in free agency, giving them a quarterback who can lead their offense to a deep run in the playoffs with a stable level of production under center. Consistent quarterback play eluded the Falcons last year as Desmond Ridder struggled to get the offense going while surrounded by one of the best groups of skill players in the league.

After getting stonewalled by the Pittsburgh Steelers defense, the Falcons now enter the second week of the season with more question marks than answers. Especially the way Kirk Cousins looked in his debut with his new team, looking less than 100% while favoring his surgically repaired Achilles. With another tough defense on deck fresh off of holding Jordan Love to a 50% completion rate, expect Cousins to struggle for the second week in a row as he will be under constant pressure by the Eagles defensive line.

As for where to wager on Monday Night Football’s matchup between the Atlanta Falcons and Philadelphia Eagles, FanDuel Sportsbook has been the front runner for the market as they offer a wide range of props for their users to choose from and at very favorable odds. NFL MNF Prop Bets Week 2

Kirk Cousins Under 229.5 Passing Yards (-115) at FanDuel Sportsbook

It was a shaky start for one of the favorites to win the Comeback Player of the Year award as Kirk Cousins finished his debut with the Atlanta Falcons throwing for 155 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. Granted it was as tough a defensive test as Cousins could ask for as it was against the vaunted Pittsburgh Steelers, yet it was still notable how Cousins looked in the process. After being shelved by a torn Achilles last season, Cousins looked noticeably limp while favoring his repaired Achilles all game long.

To make matters worse for Cousins, he will be under constant pressure for the second week in a row as the Eagles defensive line is one of the best units in the league at collapsing the pocket. When in a collapsing pocket, Cousins will not have the benefit of scrambling away from pressure should he have to continue to favor his repaired Achilles. Even with an elite group of pass catchers, they will struggle to create separation from the Eagles secondary with less time available for Cousins to throw to them.

Kirk Cousins Under 1.5 Passing Touchdowns (-185) at Caesars Sportsbook

With Cousins expected to struggle in his efforts of moving the ball down the field against another stout defense, the Falcons will be presented with a minimal amount of scoring opportunities. In the rare chance they do find themselves in a scoring position, they may opt in to using star running back Bijan Robinson as he will be their most consistent source of offensive production. Capitalizing on scoring opportunities while limiting variance is key for the Falcons as a +6.5 dog and keeping the ball out of Cousins hands while under pressure is their best course of success.

Jalen Hurts Under 31.5 Pass Attempts (-114) at FanDuel Sportsbook

After re-tooling their offense in the offseason, it was a successful first outing for Jalen Hurts and the Eagles as they generated 410 total yards of offense in a 34-29 win over the Green Bay Packers. Newly acquired star running back Saquon Barkley played a major role in their success as he ran over the Packers front seven to the tune of 109 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. He also hauled in two receptions for another 23 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown.

With the Eagles getting the benefit of going against another middling front seven, their offense may continue to rely on Barkley’s rushing production as he should pick up sizable gains with each carry. With each rush attempt comes one less pass attempt for Hurts which plays towards the under on this prop. Factor in the Eagles being -6.5 point favorites, and we may see a run-heavy game script late in the contest as they try and run out the clock.
