The key to a win for Seattle will be for their defense to hold, then QB Wilson and friends should be able to take care of these battered Rams

LA Rams backup QB John Wolford got the Week 17 job done against the Arizona Cardinals, with a final score 18-7, which is good news since the bad news is that Rams starting QB Jared Goff is listed as questionable for this NFC Wild Card matchup due to a thumb surgery he is still healing from, so expect Aaron Donald’s defense to make up the difference.
The 12-4 Seattle Seahawks suffered from a somewhat shaky defense early in the season, but that has seemed to improve a bit in the latter part of the year, so now it is expected for QB Russell Wilson and these high-scoring Seahawks (including WRs D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett) to outscore these black and blued Rams.
These two NFC West franchises have played each other 46 prior times (including 1 postseason game), with the Seattle Seahawks winning 25 of those games and the Los Angeles Rams winning 21 of the games.
Right now, the LA Rams have the number one ranked defense in the league after allowing opponents to gain an average of just 282 total offensive yards and score only 18.5 points per game.
A big leader on that side of the ball in LA is star defensive tackle Aaron Donald, arguably not just the best at his position, but also the best player in the league right now due to his never-ending engine that runs on high for sixty minutes until the final whistle is blown.
Donald’s pressure will be double-teamed and then some, so he must step up and have a huge game, the 29-year old with 13.5 sacks and 26 quarterback hits with 4 forced fumbles and 45 tackles, 14 for loss, on the season.
Seattle has the 22nd ranked defense at this point, but DC Ken Norton Jr’s crew was ranked close to last in the league earlier during the season, a flaw that the team apparently addressed.
Now they are tasked to hunt down whoever the Rams start as QB, a task that the D-line of Seattle must be looking forward to, fondly, including LJ Collier, Poona Ford, Benson Mayowa, and Jarran Reed.
Seattle ranks 7th averaging almost 3 sacks per game (2.9) and getting after either Wolford or a still injured Goff will be one of the main keys to keeping Los Angeles out of the end zone on Saturday.
Never good when your starting QB just had thumb surgery, but that is the situation that the Rams find themselves in for this Wild Card matchup with the Seahawks.
He is listed as questionable, and head coach Sean McVay has told the media that he is “not sure” about whether he will be able to play on Saturday, though Goff did play with the injury in Week 16, though that is before he had the surgery.
Should Goff not be able to go, his backup John Wolford will start, the rookie QB so far with just the one game under his belt in Week 17 when he completed 22 passes out of 38 attempts for 231 yards and 0 touchdowns with an interception for a completion percentage of just 57.9.
One of the keys to Seattle’s surging defense is safety Jamal Adams, the superstar who came to the team last July through trade and who has made himself an invaluable piece of this oft-questioned squad.
During the 2020 season, Adams’s stats line was solid, posting 9.5 sacks and 14 quarterback hits along with a forced fumble, 3 passes defended, and 83 total tackles, with 11 of those for a loss, numbers that are consistent with his typical production.
Right now, Adams, who was named to his third straight Pro Bowl in December, is listed as questionable for Wild Card Weekend with a shoulder injury, and he will remain a game-time decision for head coach Pete Carroll, though if he can manage to put on his pads, chances are the tough playmaker will be out on that field for his first-ever NFL playoffs.
