Jordan Love is questionable to play with a groin injury
Jared Goff is expected to play after injuring his ankle during the week
Heavy rain is forecasted for Green Bay on Sunday
A battle for the NFC North highlights Sunday’s slate of games as the Detroit Lions visit the Green Bay Packers. While both teams have severe injury concerns, we expect a thrilling matchup on the Frozen Tundra. That means there are a lot of great bets on the board, which we will discuss below.
Below are the odds for the Lions vs. Packers game from Caesars Sportsbook. Sign up with Caesars using our promo code WSN1000 and get a $1,000 First Bet Offer OR $250 in Bonus Bets.
Team | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Detroit Lions | -3 (-110) | -178 | Over 48 (-110) |
Green Bay Packers | +3 (-110) | +150 | Under 48 (-110) |
As talented as both of these offenses are, we expect a low-scoring slugfest to play out on Sunday.
For starters, the weather is expected to be awful in Green Bay. The temperatures will hover around 50 degrees, but heavy rain is expected. That will be a problem for both passing games, especially with both starting quarterbacks dealing with injuries.
The result is that these two teams rely on their talented backfields, especially if Malik Willis is starting for the Packers. The former Titan averages 8.6 YPC for 137 yards and a touchdown on the ground. If he doesn’t play, that will mean more carries for Josh Jacobs, who has the fourth-most rushing yards in the league.
The Lions allow the fifth-fewest yards in the league this season, but opponents have a surprising 4.7 YPC against them. Last week, we saw the unit struggle against Tony Pollard and the Titans, allowing 94 yards on 20 carries. However, the Detroit run defense is limiting big plays. That is a recipe for many long and slow drives, eating up a lot of time.
On the other hand, the Lions' backfield is one of the most intimidating in the league. Jahmyr Gibbs (6.4 YPC, 591 YDS) and David Montgomery (4.5 YPC, 415 YDS) have been fantastic, combining 13 touchdowns on the ground. The Packers' defense ranks tenth against the run this season, but these two backs will be able to find running room.
Aside from Jordan Love, the Packers also have a significant injury question around top cornerback Jaire Alexander. His absence will make life easier for the Lions’ passing game, but that doesn’t change the fact that Jared Goff is dealing with an ankle injury. While there is no long-term damage, even a twisted ankle can have a massive impact on a quarterback’s ability to throw accurately, especially in the rain.
These two teams have injured quarterbacks and great run games, so we expect a low-scoring game in the rain on Sunday.

While we believe this game will be decided by the ground game, expect the Packers to take some shots at big plays for Jayden Reed. The explosive receiver is used both on the ground and through the air, regardless of who is behind center on Sunday.
The Lions defense has not defended against the pass well this season, allowing the sixth-most yards per game (247.6). That won’t get better with Aidan Hutchinson still out, giving Green Bay time to take some shots to Reed downfield.

The Lions’ big back has been one of the league's most dangerous red zone backs. His seven touchdowns are the third-most, scoring at least one in all but one game this season. While the 27-year-old likely won’t see as many touches as Gibbs, he will get them when it counts.

While Montgomery shines in the red zone, Gibbs is the more explosive back with a 6.4 YPC average. He has rushed for over 115 yards in two straight games, posting 116 against a superb Vikings run defense two weeks ago.
The Packers' run defense has been good this season, but Gibbs is an exceptional talent who is playing his best football. He will easily surpass this total, posting his third consecutive 100-yard game of the season.
