The Panthers are near or at the bottom in nearly every statistic imaginable. They rank 28th in defensive EPA per play and explosive plays and dead last in offensive EPA per play, presenting Dalton with a monumental challenge after he only started one game last year. They have games against the Commanders and Broncos to look forward to in Weeks 7 and 8, though they will be an underdog in both games.
The Giants became the first team in NFL history to score three touchdowns, keep their opponent out of the end zone for the entire game, and lose in regulation as they fell to the Commanders last week. That was their best chance to steal a win, and their upcoming schedule includes games against the Browns, Cowboys, Seahawks, Bengals, Eagles, and Steelers. They rank 26th in yards per play and scored the second-fewest points, trailing only Carolina.
Bo Nix’s inability to push the ball down the field combined with Denver’s severe lack of talented running and receiving options has resulted in one of the worst offenses in the league (28th in yards per play, 30th in scoring). Nix is 11/36 for 212 yards and four interceptions on passes more than five yards downfield, and his struggles are a clear impediment to a team whose defense surprisingly played better than expected.
The injury bug infested the Rams, claiming star wideouts Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua, five offensive linemen, and several members of the defense. They still have talent, a top-10 quarterback in Matthew Stafford, and a great coach in Sean McVay, but it’s going to be hard to overcome all of the losses they already suffered.
The Jags invent ways to lose games, whether it be fumbling at the goal line, failing to get stops, or making head-scratching decisions on fourth down. They are 1-7 over their last eight games with the lone win coming against the Panthers, and they’ve got a couple of tough weeks with games against the Bills and Texans on the horizon.
Perhaps last year’s 9-8 season was the flash in the pan. Anthony Richardson completed 49.1 percent of his passes for three touchdowns and four interceptions despite his offensive line grading first in pass-blocking success during the first two weeks of the campaign. Indy’s defense was also dismantled by the Packers, who basically did nothing other than run the ball down their throat.
Daniel Jones is one of the worst QBs in the NFL, and Brian Daboll hasn't shown the flashes of coaching genius that won him the 2022 Coach of the Year award. New York’s defense is awful aside from its defensive front, and even they have been inconsistent thus far. Their brutal upcoming schedule is the biggest reason we are targeting them in last winless NFL team odds.
