Last Undefeated NFL Team Odds: Why the Detroit Lions are Favored Ahead of the 49ers, Chiefs

Every NFL team starts the year with the ambition of going a perfect 17-0 and winning the Super Bowl. With the season quickly approaching, sportsbooks have released odds for which teams they believe will keep the “0” in their loss column longer than anyone else.

The reigning Super Bowl participants and conference champions, the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs, are second and third in odds - meanwhile, the young Detroit Lions are a surprising favorite coming off another successful year under Dan Campbell.

Here, we will highlight the odds for every team and discuss which of the top favorites is the most likely to win out.

Detroit Lions (+750) at FanDuel

The Lions were one o the final four teams remaining in the playoffs last year and had a 17-point halftime lead in the NFC Championship Game before they fell to the Niners. They start their year with a fairly manageable schedule, with the only standouts on their early slate being the Dallas Cowboys in Week 6 and the Green Bay Packers in Week 9. Both of those games are on the road, however, which should prove to be difficult.

San Francisco 49ers (+800) at FanDuel

The Niners are the perennial cream of the crop in the NFC and are right at the top of Super Bowl odds yet again. They play the Minnesota Vikings, New England Patriots, and Arizona Cardinals in three of their first five games but will have to face the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 7. They also have the Cowboys the following week.

Kansas City Chiefs (+900) at FanDuel

KC has a make-or-break first two weeks with the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals both set to come to Arrowhead Stadium. They’ll also face the new-look Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4 and have the matchup with the Niners we just mentioned. If they survive all of those games, they just have the Bills in Week 11 to lose sleep over until the final month of the season.

Bet on Kansas City Chiefs (+900) at FanDuel

Philadelphia Eagles (+1100) at FanDuel

Philly made the Super Bowl two years ago and started last year 10-1 before it lost six of its last seven games. They start the year by facing the Packers in Brazil, which will be a real wild card, before a string of easier matchups. They get the Cleveland Browns in Week 6 and the Bengals in Week 8, at which point their schedule takes a turn for the worse.

Cincinnati Bengals (+1300) at FanDuel

Expectations are high for the Bengals now that Joe Burrow is back with a clean bill of health. That said, they play the Chiefs and Ravens in their first five games and also have the Browns and Eagles in Weeks 7 and 8, along with a rematch at Baltimore in Week 10. Cincy is one of the best teams in the league but has the toughest schedule of the favorites.

Last Undefeated NFL Team 2024: Upset Teams

Houston Texans (+1500) at FanDuel

Houston put the NFL on notice last year by winning the AFC South and then advancing out of the Wild Card with a rookie head coach and a rookie quarterback. They start their sophomore campaign together by avoiding all of the top teams in the league until they get the Lions and Cowboys in Weeks 10 and 11. The only regular playoff contender they face in the first half of their season is the Bills in Week 5, and that game will take place in Houston.

Los Angeles Chargers (+2200) at FanDuel

Jim Harbaugh has the highest winning percentage among active NFL coaches and just won a national championship at Michigan. He cleaned house and has no experience with his current roster, but if he can help beat the Chiefs in Week 4, the Chargers could easily get to 8-0 before the schedule gets tough.

My Pick: San Francisco 49ers (+800) at FanDuel

The Niners face three of the worst teams in the league in the first five weeks and will be favored at home against the Chiefs (even though Kansas City will be coming off a bye). Brock Purdy should be even better this year, and the team around him is simply the most talented in the league from top to bottom. This is a “safer” pick, and although it’s second on the board, the +800 odds are still extremely playable.
