  • New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is highly unlikely to play.

  • The Jets are 2-0 this preseason.

The New York Jets and New York Giants square off in their preseason at MetLife Stadium, their shared field. The Jets are 2-0 this preseason, while the Giants are 1-1. The Jets are coming off a 15-12 over the Carolina Panthers, and the Giants lost in their most recent game, 28-10 to the Houston Texans.

Jets vs Giants 2024 08 24 Prediction

Jets vs. Giants Predictions

While there’s seemingly the slightest of chances Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers could suit up here, it doesn’t seem likely. Earlier this week, Rodgers spoke about his status for the game and had this to say:

“You never know. I feel like Saleh already ruled me out a few weeks ago, but if I beg him, maybe I’ll get to be out there.”

Not sounding all too likely. It makes sense; he’s coming off a torn Achilles, but getting a few live reps could shake off some rust heading into the regular season against a tough San Francisco 49ers defense.

Without Rodgers in the fold, we’ll likely see a combination of Adrian Martinez, Andrew Peasley, and Tyrod Taylor. Taylor didn’t play in Week 2. Martinez and Peasley combined for 14 completions of 28 attempts for 100 yards and an interception.

Not great. In fact, the entire Jets offense was mediocre. All 15 of their points came on five field goals, including a long of 52 from Austin Seibert. These two quarterbacks were better in Week 1, though.

We also saw running back Braelon Allen take a step back. He averaged nine yards per carry on six totes in Week 1. In Week 2, he averaged well under four yards per carry.

As for the Giants, they beat the Detroit Lions in Week 1 with a combination of Tommy DeVito and Drew Lock under center. They combined for 12 completions on 25 attempts for 109 yards and an interception. Running back Eric Gray stole the show with two scores.

In Week 2, the Giants gave starting quarterback Daniel Jones some run coming off a torn ACL, and it didn’t go well. He completed 11 of 18 passes for 138 yards and threw two interceptions. These went to Jalen Pitre and Derek Stingley Jr. If there’s any silver lining, this was against the Texas first-team defense.

This being the final week of the preseason, I don’t expect starters to be out there much. This is going to be a field goal competition.

I’ll lean Giants because there are some quarterbacks with regular-season starting experience, but I don’t feel too strongly about either side.

Jets vs. Giants Best Prop Bets

Below are three props for this preseason Week 3 matchup between the Jets and Giants, all from bet365 Sportsbook.

Winning Margin 1-6 Points: Giants (+300) at bet365

Assuming we get Peasley/Martinez/Taylor against Lock/DeVito, I lean slightly toward the Giants. Taylor played in Week 1, but it was pretty brief. He’s a veteran and the backup to Rodgers, so I could see maybe a couple of series, but nothing more than that. Meanwhile, Lock and DeVito could be battling for the backup job. It seems like it’s in Lock’s favor, but DeVito showed flashes last season.

Still, even though I favor the Giants' quarterbacks, they haven’t shown much of anything this preseason, and the Jets' defensive depth could be a tough task for them.

This game comes down to the running game and field goals, and picking either team to win by more than six feels like way too many points.

Through two games, the Jets are averaging 17.5 points and have seven field goals, while the Giants are averaging just 12.

I’ll take the Giants in this spot, as they’re the favored team.

Giants Under 16.5 Points (-120) at bet365

The Giants are averaging a mere 12 points this preseason, and their three touchdowns have all come on the ground. Two came from Gray, and the other came from Devin Singletary in Week 2.

Lock didn’t play in Week 2, but DeVito did. He’s completed 18 of 34 passes for over 160 yards.

There’s just been nothing shown this preseason to make me feel good about them scoring 17 or more here.

Jets Under 14.5 Points (-120) at bet365

The Jets are averaging 17.5 points this preseason, but 21 of their points have come on field goals. Peasley had a passing touchdown in Week 1 to Jason Brownlee, and Israel Abanikanda scored a rushing touchdown, but I think we’re looking at a 13-10 or 14-13 game here.

Week 2 saw the Jets score 15 points, but all of them came on field goals. It’s difficult to rely on that once again.

There’s something to be said about this being a lot of players' final showcase for a job with the Jets, Giants, or somewhere else in the NFL, but that goes for the defense, too.

Take the under on both sides here.
