Tampa Bay is battling injuries on the offensive side of the ball
Both teams come into this matchup at 4-3
Chris Godwin will miss the remainder of the season with an ankle injury
The Buccaneers come into Week 8 as the most injured offense in the NFL. Chris Godwin will miss the remainder of the season with an ankle injury and Mike Evans will be gone until after the Week 11 bye.
Bucky Irving has been very good as of late and Rachaad White is healthy, so the Buccaneers have the edge at running back.
The Falcons have been impressive at times behind Bijan Robinson and a good receiving duo in Drake London and Darnell Mooney. They’re favored because the Buccaneers are battered.
This NFC South game will come down to how well Baker Mayfield plays without his top two playmakers, but Mayfield knows how to win and we expect a big performance.

The following odds for the Falcons vs. Buccaneers matchup are provided by FanDuel Sportsbook.
Team | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Atlanta Falcons | +2.5 (-118) | -142 | Over 46 (-110) |
Tampa Bay Buccaneers | +2.5 (-102) | +120 | Under 46 (-110) |
The Cold, Hard Football Facts have successfully predicted the outcome of NFL games and seasons for over 20 years. Their 22 proprietary stats rank teams in terms of efficiency, and Tampa Bay ranks 11th in the Quality Stats Power Rankings. Cold Hard has Atlanta ranked 20th in this category.
These stats don’t account for the injuries to both teams, so Atlanta may have the edge on paper. Yet, if the Buccaneers can respond, it’s in a divisional game that is still manageable at home.
Tampa Bay is still a very good football team behind Mayfield. We think the quarterback will get the home crowd behind him and cover the underdog spread this week.

These teams square off in Week 8 with first place in the division on the line. Atlanta comes in more healthy compared to Tampa Bay, but we see this matchup being a dogfight.
This game will ultimately come down to quarterback play and who can take care of the ball and Mayfield, an MVP candidate, has an advantage over Kirk Cousins.
Cousins has posted an impressive 2024 campaign throwing for 1,830 yards which is the fourth most in the league. He has thrown for ten touchdowns, but he has seven interceptions as well.
Wide receivers London and Mooney have been very good for this Falcons team, but they might have a rough day on Sunday.
We think Tampa Bay will have a different gameplan on Sunday compared to normal weeks, and for a good reason. Without the wide receiver weapons we think the Buccaneers will establish the run early with a three running back committee.
Atlanta has no clue how to prepare for the Buccaneers this week as they change their offensive philosophy. Mayfield will get opportunities to make plays down the field if they establish the run early, and we think he will lead his team to a victory in the end.
Wide receiver Sterling Shepard is a great deep threat to focus on for Mayfield this week and we think he will have a break-out game. Atlanta gives up a ton of points and we expect Mayfield and the rest of the offense to take advantage of this flaw.
There is no question that Bijan Robinson is the most skilled player for the Falcons. He will get plenty of opportunities in Week 8.
Atlanta likes to get the run game going early to open up the pass, and we expect Robinson to find the end zone.
Robinson has 103 carries for 483 yards to go with four touchdowns in 2024. His ability to make defenders miss in the open field is impressive and he is the goal-line threat for the Falcons.
Look for Robinson to have his way in this matchup and cash his anytime touchdown prop.

Bucky Irving has been impressive as of late and we expect this trend to continue. He has found the end zone twice in the last two games, even with White healthy. Irving is also a great pass catcher, which can lead to more touchdowns.
Tampa Bay does a great job of utilizing Irving on any down to maximize his explosiveness. He has 67 carries for 351 yards to go with three touchdowns in 2024.

Drake London is the number one option for Cousins, and he loves throwing him the football. London has 44 catches for 491 yards and five touchdowns.
London has scored in three straight games and has been targeted 31 times in this span. These are all good signs of a quarterback that trusts his receiver and we expect London to keep this streak going.
