Colts quarterback Anthony Richardons suffered a hip injury in Week 4, and his status for Week 5 is currently unknown.
The Jaguars could be without defensive end Josh Hines-Allen, who’s dealing with a concussion.
The Jaguars are allowing 284 passing yards and two passing touchdowns per game.
In Week 5 of the NFL season, we have an AFC South showdown between the Indianapolis Colts and Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars are 0-4 and seeking their first win of the season against the 2-2 Colts.
Look below for the moneyline, point spread, and total odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook where you can receive $200 in bonus bets after depositing $10 and wager $5.
Team | Moneyline | Spread | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Indianapolis Colts | +124 | +2.5 (-102) | Over 46.5 (-110) |
Jacksonville Jaguars | -146 | -2.5 (-120) | Under 46.5: -110 |
There are a lot of injuries on both sides, but operating under the assumption that Colts running back Jonathan Taylor (high ankle sprain) and Jaguars defensive end Josh Hines-Allen (concussion) will be out while Anthony Richardson (hip) will play.
If there was ever a game for Richardson to turn things around, it’s here against the Jaguars. Richardson has six interceptions this season, but the Jaguars haven’t picked off a single pass. They also allow 284 passing yards and nearly touchdowns per game.
Look for Richardson’s scrambling ability and his downfield passing ability to his receivers to be the difference here, especially with Taylor out.

When it rains, it pours for the Jaguars. Not only are they 0-4, but they’re waiting to see if players like Evan Engram, Devin Lloyd, and Darnell Savage will play. Hines-Allen has a concussion, and in today’s game, it’s incredibly rare for a player to play the next week. Linebacker Foyesade Oluokun was also placed on injured reserve before Week 4 with a foot injury. He’s a player who’s atop the league leaders in tackles every season.
As for the Colts, center Ryan Kelly, cornerback Kenny Moore II, and defensive end Kwity Paye are questionable, and they added defensive end Tyquan Lewis to injured reserve.
Taylor has a “mild high ankle sprain,” but I’d expect him to be out.
The Colts offense looked great with Joe Flacco in the game for an injured Richardson, but assuming Richardson’s hip injury isn’t as bad as the team mentioned, he should be out there.
Richardson has been erratic this season, but before leaving Week 4, he completed three of four passes for 71 yards, including a 32-yard and 28-yard pass.
With the Jaguars, he’ll have a golden opportunity to rack up some numbers. The Jaguars haven’t had any interceptions this season, and they’ve allowed about 284 passing yards and two touchdowns per game. They’re also likely without Hines-Allen, so the pass rush pressure will be even less.
That said, the Colts haven’t exactly been a shut-down unit defensively, either. They allow about 258 passing yards per game and have allowed six passing touchdowns this season (1.5 per game).
Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence is still throwing deep plenty. He attempted six passes (18.2% of his attempts) 20+ yards downfield, but there was only one completion. He also only completed four of 10 passes on throws 10-19 yards downfield. He thrived 0-9 yards downfield, completing 10 of 12 passes.
The Jaguars had a chance to beat the Texans in Week 4 but couldn’t close the game out. They allowed a rushing touchdown with about 18 seconds to go.
Getting Moore II back in the lineup would be nice for the Colts, thanks to his experience, but that remains to be seen.
The Jaguars just cannot seem to click, and they’re likely without their best pass rusher.
I’ll side with the Colts here. There’s more potential for explosive plays on that side.

Heading into this game, Lawrence has just one game with two touchdown passes or more, and that was in Week 4 against the Houston Texans. He has just four total touchdown passes on the season, and in Week 2, he didn’t have a single touchdown pass.
The Colts allow 1.5 passing touchdowns per game to opposing quarterbacks, but they’ve also held two quarterbacks to one passing touchdown. That said, in Week 4, they allowed one passing touchdown and two rushing touchdowns to Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields.
Simply put: This offense just isn’t working super well. Yes, they almost beat the Texans, but they still only put up 20 points.
The Colts have a beatable defense, but I don’t trust Lawrence to take advantage. In 2023, he threw one touchdown or less in 10 games.

Piggybacking off of Lawrence’s under on passing touchdowns, I think he’ll also go under on interceptions. The Colts have just two interceptions this season, and it came in Week 3 against the Chicago Bears. In Weeks 1, 2, and 4, the quarterback on the opposing team didn’t throw a single interception.
Lawrence isn’t turning the ball over much this season, having just one interception. Lawrence has had five turnover-worthy plays per Pro Football Focus, but the Colts' defense isn’t a unit to worry about regarding quarterbacks throwing interceptions. They had two in Week 3, but it was against the rookie Caleb Williams.
This feels like another Lawrence game with 200 or so yards, one touchdown, and no interceptions.

While I pegged Lawrence to go under 1.5 passing touchdowns, I think the one he will have will go to Brian Thomas Jr.
Thomas Jr. has been a saving grace for this offense. In Week 4, he was targeted nine times and caught six passes for 86 yards and a touchdown. He averaged 14.3 yards per reception.
This season, the Colts have allowed a receiving touchdown in every game. Further, they’ve allowed five receivers with three catches or more to average double-digit yards per reception.
Thomas Jr. has been targeted 26 times this season, and six of those (23.1%) have come 20+ yards downfield.
He’s an explosive playmaker and the No. 1 receiver in this offense.
I think he’ll find the end zone here.
