The Chicago Bears' next coach odds are shaping up, with Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury currently the betting favorite to fill the position.
The Bears had high hopes for rookie quarterback and first-overall pick Caleb Williams, who had a solid statistical season but was often ineffective. The defense also capitulated toward the end of the year, and the team endured some of the most painful losses possible.

Kingsbury coached Caleb Williams as his offensive coordinator in college and just had a remarkable season with Jayden Daniels in Washington. Kingsbury said several times over the course of the season that he feels more prepared to take charge of an entire organization after his past experience with the Arizona Cardinals and after spending time with more coaches. He is a young, quarterback-friendly coach, which is a good start for this team.
Johnson is regarded as potentially the best offensive coordinator in the league both because of his creativity and his diversity. He helped cultivate arguably the league’s best rushing and passing attack in Detroit and knows the strengths and weaknesses of the Bears since he played them twice per year. It could be tough to convince him to stay in the NFC North, however, given how strong the three other teams are.
Vrabel is a culture-setter who has an AFC Championship appearance on his resume. While he might not be the perfect option for a young quarterback, he will implement a structure and get the team committed to playing winning football sooner rather than later. He also took Ryan Tannehill to the AFC Championship Game, and Williams, while young, has potential top-five-in-the-world talent.
The Bears started the regular season 4-2, only to lose 10 of their next 11 games, several of them in the most painful way possible. They fired coach Matt Eberflus after a Thanksgiving clock mismanagement debacle and turned the team over to Thomas Brown, who did not find much more success.
The Bears’ defensive numbers were excellent for the first half of the year but slowly trailed off by the end of the campaign. They put heavy investment into getting talented players at skill positions to support their rookie QB, but he never seemed truly comfortable in the pocket and didn’t speed his internal clock up enough nor get the necessary help from his offensive line to survive.
Chicago has tons of talent but is also in the best division in football. Whoever accepts this job will need to set a culture for a starved franchise and be willing to contest with some of the best teams in the league for at least six games every year.
