Chargers vs. Browns Picks, Predictions & Player Props: Chargers Continues to Surprise

  • Cedric Tillman had two touchdowns last week

  • Jameis Winston will start again for the Browns

  • Nick Chubb rushed for 52 yards on 16 rushes against the Ravens in Week 8

This is one of the most intriguing matchups of Week 9. On one side is a Los Angeles Chargers team that continues to surprise under Jim Harbaugh. On the other is a Cleveland Browns team looking to save their season behind new quarterback Jameis Winston. The matchup between these AFC conference rivals should be a great one, with a ton of great bets on the board.

Chargers vs Browns Predictions and Prop Bets

Chargers vs. Browns Predictions

The Chargers were able to beat up on the Saints last week, but we don’t expect that momentum to carry into this week for a couple of reasons. One is that the Saints have been awful without Derek Carr, losing six straight games after the loss to LA. Combine that with the team's floundering defense, and you have a recipe for an easy win.

The other reason is the Chargers' lack of success. The offense ranks in the bottom ten of the league in yards gained and points scored. JK Dobbins has cooled off after a hot start, averaging just 3.2 YPC over his last five games. That has been a problem given the team’s inconsistent receiving corps, which will face a solid Cleveland pass defense on Sunday.

The Browns’ defense isn’t as elite as it once was, but that will change as the offense continues to improve. Expect their pass rush to play a crucial role tonight, with Za’Darius Smith (5 sacks, 5 TFLs), Myles Garrett (4 sacks, 7 TFLs), and Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah (3 sacks, 10 TFLs) all having strong campaigns through eight weeks.

Cleveland’s ability to pressure the passer will neutralize Herbert, especially given the lack of playmakers around him. Playing on the road will only make things more difficult for LA, who won’t put up many points.

Last but not least, we love this bet because of Jameis Winston. The veteran brought the Cleveland offense back to life in his first start last week, and we think that momentum will carry over.

Chargers vs. Browns: My Pick

It is hard to travel across the country and win on the road. That is especially true when facing a team that has found momentum for the first time this season. Winston has brought needed leadership to the offense, which will translate to several more wins this season, including on Sunday.

Chargers vs. Browns Best Prop Bets

Cedric Tillman Anytime TD (+255) at Caesars Sportsbook

Tillman has broken out over the last two weeks, scoring the first two touchdowns of his career last week. While Deshaun Watson failed to use the young pass catcher, the receiver has 15 receptions and 180 yards in the previous two games.

With Amari Cooper gone, the Browns are without a top receiver. As talented as Elijah Moore and Jerry Jeudy are, neither has thrived as a team’s top option. Tillman has flashed a lot of ability with Winston behind center, and we expect him to continue to do so on Sunday.

Nick Chubb Over 52.5 Rush Yards (-119) at Caesars Sportsbook

Nick Chubb returned two weeks ago and has been limited, but he will return to form this weekend. We liked what we saw from him against the Ravens, who have the best run defense in the league. While the Chargers' front seven has been solid against the run, they won’t offer the same challenge, leading to Chubb’s best game in two seasons.

David Njoku Over 5.5 Receptions (-104) at Caesars Sportsbook

Winston isn’t your typical backup quarterback, but he will still rely heavily on his tight end on Sunday. The Chargers' pass defense is solid, which will challenge the team's mediocre receiving corps.

After a slow start that saw him miss time with an injury, Njoku has been a big part of the offense over the last three games. The tight end has 5+ receptions in three straight games, seeing at least seven targets in each. LA has a tough defense, leading to Winston relying on the talented big man.
