  • J.K. Dobbins is averaging 87.6 rushing yards per game and 5.4 yards per carry for the Chargers.

  • The Arizona defense has forced five interceptions by opposing quarterbacks in their last four games.

  • The Chargers are allowing a league-best 13.2 points per game and have yet to concede more than 20 points in a game this season.

Monday night doubleheaders are back in Week 7. The nightcap on Monday Night Football features the Arizona Cardinals hosting the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chargers have won five of the last six head-to-head meetings between these teams, including a 25-24 win in the desert in 2022. On Monday, the Chargers will be aiming for their third road win of the season whereas the Cardinals are hoping to get back on track amidst a 2-4 start to the season.

Chargers vs. Cardinals Odds

The Chargers are considered betting favorites on the road in Monday’s game. However, the spread is less than a field goal, so this game should be close and competitive. Cardinals vs Chargers Predictions and Prop Bets

Chargers vs Cardinals My Pick

Somehow, the Cardinals are just two weeks removed from a furious comeback win over the 49ers. Arizona outscored San Francisco 14-0 in the second half of that game for a 24-23 win. However, that game looks like an aberration compared to the rest of Arizona’s season. Other than that game, the Cardinals have lost three of their last four games, scoring no more than 14 points in any of those losses. On the other hand, the Chargers returned from their bye with a road win over the Broncos last week. Jim Harbaugh’s team has the top defense in the league and a stable rushing game, which should be enough to handle the struggling Cardinals.

Chargers vs. Cardinals Predictions

There were high hopes for the Chargers heading into the season with Jim Harbaugh taking over as the head coach. However, most people assumed he would help get quarterback Justin Herbert to another level. Rather, the Chargers have won primarily with defense, holding all five of their opponents to 20 points or less, including the Chiefs, albeit in a losing effort.

They’ve also become a run-first team, leaning on J.K. Dobbins, who is gaining 5.3 yards per carry. Herbert, to his credit, has been efficient as a passer. He’s completed 64% of his passes and thrown just one interception over his first five games. However, with rookie Ladd McConkey leading the team in receiving, the Chargers don’t have a dynamic passing game at the moment. Yet, that hasn’t mattered much with the way Dobbins and the defense have performed.

Likewise, the Cardinals haven’t seen their quarterback reach the level expected of him before the season. After throwing for three touchdowns in a Week 2 win, Kyler Murray has had a rollercoaster of a season and is averaging less than 200 passing yards per game despite still being a threat with his legs. It doesn’t help matters that Marvin Harrison Jr. hasn’t hit the ground running as a rookie, further hindering the Arizona passing attack.

Meanwhile, the Arizona defense is among the worst in the NFL, yielding over 27 points per game. Only the Rams in Week 2 have been held below 20 by the Cardinals this season. In fact, three of their six opponents have scored at least 34 points against the Cardinals, including the Packers in a lopsided 34-13 loss last week.

Chargers vs. Cardinals Best Player Props

Kyler Murray Under 212.5 Passing Yards (-110 at bet365 Sportsbook)

Murray has been too inconsistent to believe he can go over 212 passing yards against one of the best defensive teams in the NFL. While he managed to get to 214 passing yards last week, he was held below that number in the previous three weeks. With Marvin Harrison Jr. listed as questionable and struggling to find consistency, the Cardinals are lacking a big-play target in the passing game. That has helped to hold down Murray’s passing yards in recent weeks. That will likely be the case again Monday against the Chargers.

J.K. Dobbins Over 71.5 Rushing Yards (-110 at bet365 Sportsbook)

Through six games, the Cardinals are among the worst teams in football at stopping the rush. Part of that is playing from behind, but of that is giving up 4.7 yards per carry. In the last four weeks, the opposing team’s leading rusher finished with over 80 yards three times. That’s a good sign that Dobbins will be able to replicate that success. Dobbins is a true workhorse in the Los Angeles backfield, so he doesn’t have to worry about getting enough carries. While a couple of strong defensive teams have kept him bottled up, Dobbins has three games with over 90 rushing yards and the Arizona defense isn’t likely to slow him down the way the Steelers and Chiefs did.

Justin Herbert Over 0.5 Interceptions (+120 at bet365 Sportsbook)

As mentioned, Herbert has thrown just one interception this season. However, forcing interceptions has actually been a strength of the Arizona defense. The Cardinals have five interceptions on the season, all of which have come in the last four games. The likes of Jared Goff, Brocky Purdy, and Jordan Love have all thrown interceptions against the Cardinals during that time. While flawed in other ways, look for the Arizona defense to force Herbert into some careless throws that result in an interception.
