  • Dak Prescott is feeling the pressure heading into Week 1, as his time with the Cowboys could be at a crossroads.

  • Deshaun Watson looks to steal the show after missing most of 2023 with an injury.

  • Amari Cooper will play against the Cowboys for the first time since Dallas traded him to Cleveland in 2022.

The late afternoon slate of NFL games in Week 1 is highlighted by the showdown between the Cleveland Browns and the Dallas Cowboys. Both teams made the playoffs last season and won’t settle for anything less this year. Yet, questions abound regarding both sides, as the Cowboys aim to win the NFC East for the second straight year for the first time since 1996 while the Browns are trying to reach the playoffs in consecutive years for the first time since 1989.

Browns vs. Cowboys Predictions

All eyes are on Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott heading into Week 1. The Cowboys have big aspirations for the season and expect Prescott to deliver. There probably aren’t a lot of quarterbacks with more pressure on them heading into the season than Prescott.

Therefore, the question is whether Prescott can make a statement in Week 1. Unfortunately, things aren’t looking favorable for him. In addition to Prescott’s reputation for failing to step up in big moments, the Dallas receiving corps is being plagued by questions of CeeDee Lamb’s availability. The Cowboys also have a rookie at left tackle and are facing a vaunted defensive line led by reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett.

These are just some of the factors that have moved the betting line in Cleveland’s favor. The Browns are favored by 2.5 points and went 8-1 against the spread at home last season. While there are questions about Deshaun Watson and the Browns, Cleveland’s defense and Prescott’s propensity for faltering in big moments are reasons to favor the Browns and fade the Cowboys when betting on this Week 1 matchup.

Browns vs. Cowboys Best Prop Bets

Aside from favoring the Browns to cover the 2.5-point spread at home, here are three prop bets for the Browns vs Cowboys game that we like.

Dak Prescott Under 1.5 Passing Touchdowns (-120) at FanDuel

This could be tough sledding for Prescott against Cleveland’s stout defensive line. The Browns aren’t going to make it easy for Prescott to create big plays or throw the ball into the end zone. Keep in mind that Prescott is prone to slow starts. In the last four years, he’s thrown multiple touchdown passes in Week 1 just once. Last season, he had multiple touchdown passes just once in the first six weeks of the season. It seems unlikely that he’ll be able to change that trend on the road against a tough defense.

Deshaun Watson Over 218.5 Passing Yards (-114) at FanDuel

Similar to Prescott, Watson is at something of a crossroads amidst reports that his starting spot could be in jeopardy if he doesn’t perform. He played in just six games last season and is coming back from an injury. However, the stars could be aligned for him to have a big game. The Dallas secondary isn’t exactly overflowing with talent, especially with Amari Cooper being Cleveland’s top receiving target. The likes of Elijah Moore, Jerry Jeudy, and tight end David Njoku give Watson excellent options as well. Watson also went over 218.5 passing yards in three of his five full games last season, so his bar for success is quite low.

Amari Cooper Over 57.5 Receiving Yards (-114) at FanDuel

This is a revenge game for Cooper, as it’s his first game facing the Cowboys since being traded to Cleveland before the 2022 season. He’ll undoubtedly be excited about playing his former team and having a big game. Since the oddsmakers are a little bullish on Cooper, he has a modest over/under of 57.5 receiving yards, a total he topped nine times in 15 regular-season games last year on his way to the Pro Bowl. While the Cowboys have Trevon Diggs to cover Cooper, Diggs can be prone to giving up big plays, opening the door for Cooper to have a big day.
