The first NFL team has been eliminated from the postseason and this week 13 sets of games As it is getting close to crunch time for all the other teams. After a thrilling week 13 that showed some of the best matchups in the league, there is only one game left to watch him bet on this week with Monday Night Football.
The Cincinnati Bengals (5-6) are set to go on the road to take on the heavily favored Jacksonville Jaguars (8-3). Before the season started, this Monday Night Football matchup was one of the most highly anticipated games of the year. Injuries to the Bengals, including star quarterback Joe Burrow, have caused a huge downslide in their productivity.
The Bengals started the season with a 1-3 overall record with two losses in the AFC North division. As Burrow started to get healthy with his injured calf, Cincinnati became a much more productive team as they won four consecutive games, with three being against playoff contenders. After tough losses to the Houston Texans and the Baltimore Ravens (for the second time), the wrist injury to Burrow developed more causing him to get season-ending surgery. The Bengals are coming off a 16-10 home loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers last week.
The Jacksonville Jaguars came into the season with the serious expectations of competing for a Super Bowl title. Those expectations were overwhelming within the first three weeks of the season as the Jaguars lost two consecutive games after winning their first matchup in week 1. The week 337-17 home loss to the Houston Texans was demoralizing. Jaguars were able to pick themselves up by winning five consecutive games, with two of them played in London. Jacksonville suffered another devastating loss, this time, in week 10 to the San Francisco 49ers 34-3. The Jaguars, once again, picked themselves up to account for two big divisional wins, including a 24-21 win on the road over a good Texans team. All three teams that beat Jacksonville are currently projected to make the playoffs.

The Cincinnati Bengals’ offense has been hard times this season. From battling inconsistent play at the offensive line to no stability from the running game to, finally, the season-ending injury to quarterback Joe Burrow. The Bengals are ranked 23rd in the league in points per game (19.3) as their passing game has been the driving force of the offense. Cincinnati ranks 19th in passing yards per game (215.9) as their rushing game ranks last in the league by only averaging 75.8 yards on the ground per game. Even with Burrow out, the Bengals continued to push the offense with the passing game from Jake Browning in last week’s 16-10 loss to the Steelers. The game plan should still be similar on Monday Night.
The Jacksonville Jaguars feel they have great reliability on both sides of the ball. The Jaguars are ranked 12th in the league in points allowed per game (20.5). Their rush defense is the biggest reason for their success as they rank third in the league in rushing yards allowed per game (87.4). Defending against the passing game has been a difficult task for the Jaguars this season as they ranked 28th by allowing 255 passing yards per game. To avoid any potential upsets from a backup quarterback, the Jaguars will need to create pressure in the backfield and force short passes or turnovers.
Jacksonville has created a nearly perfect and structured balanced offense as they have a reliable passing game, a solid set of running backs, and a tough stable offensive line. The only thing missing is the true top-deep threat number-one receiver. Jacksonville ranks 10th in points per game (23.1), 13th in total yards per game (344.2), 19th in rushing yards per game (106.2), and 11th in passing yards per game (238). Not only is the offense incredibly talented, but they are young with quarterback Trevor Lawrence and running back Travis Etienne leading the way.
This game will be a big test for the Bengals’ defense which has seen a harsh decline of productivity. Cincinnati is ranked 22nd in points allowed per game (22) and 32nd (last) in total yards allowed per game (389.3). Despite seeing great production from the pass rush, the Bengals are among the worst in the league at stopping the run and pass. For the Bengals to have a chance to slow down the Jaguars, they will need great production from their pass rushers.
There isn’t a lot of faith in the Bengals’ offense to accomplish much against this highly efficient Jaguars defense. The biggest hope for Cincinnati is that the one-dimensional offense can still thrive under backup quarterback Jake Browning.
Last week in the loss to Pittsburgh, Browning threw for 227 yards. With more time to prepare, head coach Zac Taylor may look to utilize the arm talent of Browning against Jacksonville’s defense.

Trevor Lawrence is one of the most physically gifted quarterbacks in the NFL as he possesses the ability to account for significant runs when scrambling. What makes him different from bigger-bodied quarterbacks like Buffalo Bils’ Josh Allen is that he chooses to make most, if not all, of his plays through the air.
The Bengals’ defense is so weak that if Lawrence has a chance to scramble for a first down or a wide-open touchdown, he is going to take it. He has accounted for 240 yards and three touchdowns on 51 carries. All three of his touchdowns have come within the last two games.

The offensive line of the Bengals has been inconsistent this season. In 11 games played, Cincinnati has allowed 31 sacks, which is the 13th most in the nation. The offensive line will be another elite pass rusher to face this week. The other Josh Allen has been one of the most tenacious defenders, not only for the Jaguars, but the entire NFL. Allen has accounted for 12 sacks this season, which is the fifth-most in the league. Allen has the potential to be a one-man wrecking crew against the offense of the Bengals.
