The Browns started the 2023 NFL Season with a dominating 24-3 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. They have since lost two of their last three games with both losses being against AFC North Divisional rivals. The Browns are going into this game without quarterback Deshaun Watson for a second consecutive season.

The Browns have been one of the most dominating defenses through five games this season. Under the direction of first-year defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, Cleveland has developed a defense that is elite at stopping the run, creating pass breakups, and getting to the quarterback.
The Browns will have their hands full with a dynamic offense like the 49ers, who are going to try and go short-yardage situation in a fast pace. One Browns defender who will be busy is cornerback Denzel Ward, the most trusted defensive back for the Browns.
In four games this season, Ward has accounted for 13 total tackles, 11 solo tackles, and five pass breakups. He will have to be alert covering the shifty and speedy pass-catchers like McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, and Brandon Aiyuk. The 49ers are going to get the ball out to the outside early and often, which will give players like Ward the availability to make solo tackles.
