Utah State vs. Boise State Prediction and Odds: Aggies Going for Season Sweep of Broncos

Published: Feb. 26, 2025, 10:30 AM ET
5 min read

The Utah State Aggies (24-4, 14-3) will take on the Boise State Broncos (19-8, 11-5) at the ExtraMile Arena in Boise, ID, tonight. Tipoff for this Mountain West matchup is at 10:30 p.m. ET. Fans can find coverage of the game on FS1.

The home team Broncos are the betting favorite (-3.5) for the game despite having lost to the Aggies earlier in the year, 81-79 on the road. However, Utah State was a 5.5-point favorite in that game. So, while the Broncos lost outright, they won ATS.

However, while Boise State is a home favorite in the game, history is against them. The Broncos have lost five in a row to the Aggies and have not beaten Utah State since Jan. 7, 2023, 82-59. That victory was the fifth in a five-game winning streak.

Utah State vs Boise State Prediction

Utah State vs. Boise State Prediction

The Aggies are 14-13 against the spread (ATS) this season. However, they’ve done exceptionally well when the underdog (5-0) and 4-0 when a road dog. As for Boise State, the Broncos have been solid ATS at home (9-3) and when the betting favorite at home (9-3).

The OVER is 4-4-1 for the Aggies on the road and 1-2-1 when a road dog. For Boise State, the OVER is 7-5 when at home and when favored at home.

Utah State Aggies Preview

Utah State comes into this game having won its last two and five of their last six. The one loss was a must-win if they wanted to keep their conference title hopes alive, but New Mexico beat them for the second time this season.

With three games left and just a half-game back of New Mexico, they are not mathematically eliminated. But they’d have to win out, starting with Boise State, even to have a shot. It’s possible, but they’d need a lot of help.

But that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to play for. Their win earlier in the season over the Broncos was the fifth consecutive victory over Boise State. A win can keep that streak going. However, it is worth pointing out that Utah State did not secure the earlier win until getting a four-point play with seven seconds remaining from Ian Martinez.

Three-point shooting was the key to the win over Boise State the first time. The Aggies hit 11 of 21 attempts on the night, including seven of eight in the second half. But to be fair, the Broncos hit 14 of 26 for 53.8 percent.

Utah State’s three-point shot was on display again vs. San Diego State (11-27). The Aggies lead the conference in three-point percentage (37 percent) and are second in attempts at 24.4 per game.

Boise State Broncos Preview

The Broncos began the season as one of the top contenders for the conference title. However, that notion was quickly dismissed after Boise State lost early conference contests to San Diego State, Utah State, New Mexico, and Colorado State.

However, as a bubble team, the Broncos can’t afford to lose too many more if they're going to make the Tournament this season. Boise State is fresh off a one-point win over Nevada last Saturday and an eight-point win over New Mexico (a win that is helping keep Utah State’s slim conference title hopes alive).

In the win over New Mexico, the Broncos got a big game from senior forward Tyson Degenhart (32 points and seven rebounds). Pearson Carmichael chipped in 21, and Alvaro Cardenas recorded a double-double (11 points, 10 assists).

But in the win over Nevada, Degenhart wasn’t nearly as productive (14 points), and Carmichael just had a single basket. Andrew Meadow saved the day with 24 points.

Utah State vs. Boise State My Pick

The Broncos were supposed to be the better team this season, but that has just not been the case. Utah State has the second-best offense in the conference (No. 20 in the nation), a decent defense (sixth-best), and the top scoring-margin in the Mountain West (13 points, No. 17 in the country).

Boise State should have won the previous game. It’s unlikely the Aggies get as lucky again, but I don’t think they’ll need luck to get the win this time. If you are the more cautious type, consider taking Utah State and the points or OVER 150.5 points at -105.
