On Tuesday, March 14th, the NCAA Tournament kicked off with the First Four ahead of the First Round of the infamous March Madness which will begin on Thursday and Friday, March 16th and 17th. The TCU Horned Frogs, a powerhouse lead by Mike Miles and ranked at the No. 6 spot, will go head to head with the winner of the No.11 seed Arizona State and No.11 Nevada, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. A shot at facing off against TCU in the Big Dance was up for grabs when the Sun Devils and the Wolfpack played on Wednesday. Arizona State dominated winning big against Nevada and will look to carry that momentum into Fridays game.

TCU Team Preview

  • Head Coach: Jamie Dixon

  • Record: 21-12 (9-9, 5th in Big 12)

The TCU Horned Frogs Finished the season ranked 5th in the Big 12, their 20-11 record was enough to secure them a spot in March Madness. The Horned Frogs season was very up and down but they were still able to notch an impressive 9-9 record in conference play. TCU delivered the Kansas Jayhawks, who are a favorite to win the tournament, an 83-60 loss which is the worst home loss that the Jayhawks have suffered in the past two years. The leader of this offense is point guard Mike Miles Jr. who put up 17.2 points per game on 49.7% shooting from the field for the season.

Key Players and Key Stats

Opponents will of-course need to watch out for junior guard Mike Miles who can do a little bit of everything on the court. Another important piece to TCU’s success is going to be senior guard Damion Baugh who penciled in 12.8 points per game along with 5.9 assist per game this season. The skilled backcourt of Miles and Baugh is the reason TCU leads the NCAA in fast break points with 18.8 per game.

Arizona State Team Preview

  • Head Coach: Bobby Hurley

  • Record: 22-12 (11-9, 5th in Pac-12)

The Arizona State Sun Devils were able to cruise through to the semifinals of the Pac-12 Tournament and earned themselves a spot in the First Four before facing the obstacle of #8 Arizona in the semifinals. Arizona State was able to lock down a spot in the Tournament by taking a win over the No. 8 Wildcats with a half-court shot at the buzzer from the former Wolf Pack guard Desmond Cambridge.

Key Players and Key Stats

The Sun Devils have earned the reputation as one of the top defensive teams in the country this season. Opponents are shooting at just 39.8% from the field when matched up with Arizona State, which is the 15th best in the nation. The Sun Devils are led by 6 foot 4 fifth-year Senior guard Desmond Cambridge. Cambridge is labeled as a two-way playmaker that can get things done on both ends of the floor while putting up 13.7 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.

Odds, Previews, Picks, Best Bets for TCU vs. Arizona State

The Arizona State Sun Devils are a 2-points favorite for the Arizona State matchup at DraftKings Sportsbook. TCU is a team that has built a reputation for streaky performance even though they’ve delivered some big wins on the season. With three players averaging over 12 points per game and three players averaging over four rebounds per game - TCU has the tools to pick up a win against the Sun Devils in the Big Dance and I think they will use their tools to do just that on Friday, March 17th.
