On Sunday, the NC State Wolfpack will battle the Duke Blue Devils in the Elite 8. The winner will punch their ticket to the Final Four and face the winner of Purdue vs. Tennessee.

UConn is steamrolling everyone, but NC State is still the second-hottest team in the NCAA Tournament. The Wolfpack have won eight straight games heading into Friday, including an ACC Championship.

The Wolfpack weren’t expected to be in this position as they entered the tournament as an 11 seed. However, they have taken down top seeds en route to the Elite 8.

Here, we will break down NC State vs. Duke and give our predictions for the matchup.

NC State vs. Duke Prediction and Odds

NC State Wolfpack

NC State has won the Cinderella story of the tournament because they came out of nowhere to conclude the season. NC State was an average team in the ACC this season, but they have outdone themselves in the postseason.

The Wolfpack became the first team since the 2014 UConn Huskies to win five conference games and claim their respective conference tournament. The 2014 Huskies won the National Championship, so the Wolfpack may have good fortune on their side.

Nearly every Wolfpack starter has averaged more points in the NCAA Tournament than during the regular season. DJ Horne has led NC State during their unprecedented run.

The Wolfpack guard is coming off a 19-point game as NC State upset #2 Marquette 67-58. He has made big shots all postseason, and we expect this to continue once again.

The other player who has shined is DJ Burns Jr. Burns averaged 12.6 points per game in the regular season, but he has scored 16+ points in four of his past five contests.

Burns only scored four points in the Sweet 16, but he didn’t need to as NC State dominated the entire night. Burns will compete against Kyle Filipowski, who he got the best of in the ACC Tournament.

Duke Blue Devils

Duke had a disappointing end to the ACC Tournament as they were dominated by NC State. There are few times when a team gets a second chance, but Duke has one in the Elite 8.

They can send NC State home, and bookmakers expect the Blue Devils to prevail as they’re a 6.5-point favorite.

The Blue Devils are the better team, but the Wolfpack have their number. For Duke to win, they need Kyle Filipowski to play like one of the best centers in the country.

Filipowski can’t get into foul trouble defending Burnes because this was a reason the Blue Devils came up short in the ACC Tournament.

Filipowski is coming off a great game against Houston, where he scored 16 points and nine boards. He must bring this same effort to beat Duke, even as a 6.5-point favorite.

NC State vs. Duke Pick

The Wolfpack are playing too good to go against them after winning eight straight games. On paper, Duke is the better team, but anything can happen in the Elite 8.

Look for Duke to have trouble with NC State’s size, leading to at least a Wolfpack cover.
