Saint Mary’s had an eight-game winning streak in progress when they faced Gonzaga in the WCC tournament finals. While they had beaten Gonzaga twice during the regular season, they came up short in the conference title game, 58-51.

Vanderbilt did not have nearly as good of an end to their season, losing six of their last nine games. But they did play an extremely tough SEC schedule; three of those losses came against No. 1 Auburn, No. 5 Tennessee, and No. 17 Kentucky.
