Tuesday’s college basketball menu features several ranked teams, including the Duke Blue Devils, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Wisconsin Badgers.
Find our best college basketball player props today for Cooper Flagg, Mark Sears, and John Tonje below, including why we believe they will each have big outings in their respective conference matchups.
Cooper Flagg, the clear frontrunner to win the NCAAM Wooden Award and the best player in the country, will face one of the worst defenses in college basketball on Tuesday night.
And no, that is not an exaggeration at all.
The Miami Hurricanes rank 335th in adjusted defensive efficiency (KenPom) this season and have allowed their opponents to shoot at the country’s sixth-highest effective field goal percentage.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Canisius, North Dakota, Bellarmine, and Mississippi Valley State are the five teams that have allowed opponents to shoot a higher percentage than Miami’s opponents.
Yikes.
Flagg had an underwhelming scoring performance the last time these two teams took the court, pouring in merely 13 points.
However, it was clear that in a straightforward game, he would prioritize getting his teammates the ball and building their confidence.
Flagg finished that game with six assists, quickly cruising past this line (3.5); he has logged four or more assists in eight of his past 13 games.
Expect another pass-heavy night from Flagg.
It looks like star Alabama guard Mark Sears is turning on “March mode” early this season.
Sears has finished with 30 or more points in back-to-back outings, including games against Kentucky and Missouri.
While neither of those teams is known for their defense this season, Sears will undoubtedly enter this contest with as much confidence as he has had all year.
As his statistics indicate, the All-American guard’s campaign hasn’t been the best; however, this will be a perfect opportunity for him to continue his momentum from the past two outings.
Mississippi State’s defense is somewhat respectable overall, but its perimeter defense has some glaring holes.
In fact, the Bulldogs allow opponents to shoot 36% from 3-point land, a concerning mark for a highly rated team.
And while Sears only finished with 17 points in their first meeting, he did so on just 11 field goal attempts.
Another player (Chris Youngblood) had the hot hand, so he absorbed some of Sears’ volume, but this time around, the All-American guard should have plenty of clean looks from deep.
A late-game blown lead to lose at home to the Oregon Ducks?
That could not have sat well with John Tonje and the Wisconsin Badgers.
Tonje finished with 22 points on 9-for-20 shooting from the field, but it wasn’t quite enough to push Wisconsin over the hump.
However, we expect a huge bounce-back performance from him and the rest of this Badgers team.
Tonje has been one of the best players in the country over the past several weeks, averaging just shy of 25 points per game on a ridiculously efficient 53/45/86 shooting split in his past nine outings.
In that span, Tonje has scored 20 or more points in eight of those nine games, crushing this line more often than not.
Most collegiate guards don’t ever sniff that kind of offensive success.
Now, Tonje and the Badgers host the Washington Huskies, the worst team in the Big Ten this season; they rank 96th in adjusted defensive efficiency (KenPom) and 236th in opponent points per game.
During Washington’s most recent three-game span, it has allowed opponents to score just shy of 83 points per game.
This is a particularly egregious mark considering it has played Iowa, Rutgers, and Penn State, three teams that are below .500 in conference play.
If you can find an alternate spread on Tonje’s points at plus money, I’d give it a real consideration.
