Baylor has won nine of their last 14 games
Colgate is 0-2 against top 25 teams this season
The Baylor Bears will face the Colgate Red Raiders in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. These two teams have been on opposite ends of the spectrum all season.
The Bears have been in the Top 25 all season and are a force in the Big 12. Colgate owns the Patriots League, but Baylor will be one of their toughest matchups of the year. The Red Raiders have talent, but they must be flawless to upset the third seed in the South.
Here, we will break down the matchup and give our best bets for Colgate vs. Baylor.

Colgate has appeared in seven total NCAA tournaments since 1995. This will be their fifth consecutive tournament appearance. The Red Raiders have improved significantly every year and always seem to reload with excellent recruiting classes.
The Red Raiders managed to slide into the tournament after finishing the season 25-9 and winning the Patriot League. However, they’ve only had two opportunities to take down a Top 25 team this season.
Both of these chances came back in December, when they were blown out by Illinois and Arizona. Both of these teams received top seeds in the NCAA Tournament, and Colgate’s experience against these programs should help them against Baylor.
Colgate is very stout on the defensive side of the ball, but Baylor can score at will. The Red Raiders' lack of competition throughout the regular season may haunt them in the round of 64. Their stats are stronger because of their Patriot League opponents.
The Red Raiders have stayed resilient nonetheless and have come into this tournament with the mindset that anything can happen.
At least one double-digit seed has made it to the Sweet 16 in the past three men’s tournaments, and it could be Colgate because of their March Madness experience.
As usual, the Bears have had a very competitive program. Yet, Baylor is 5-5 against Top 25 teams this year, so they have room to improve. They’ve defeated teams like Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech.
The Big 12 was one of the toughest conferences in the country, but Baylor was still an authority. The Bears finished their season 23-10 with an 11-7 in their conference. When the Bears play their best game, they’re difficult to stop.
Freshman center Yves Missi has been big for the Bears lately. Missi recorded his fifth double-double of the year and kept their last game against Big 12 champion Iowa State close until the end.
Baylor must focus on ball control as they average 12 turnovers each game. If they cough up the basketball, it will give Colgate a great chance to pull off the upset.
Baylor averaged the 32nd most points per game in the country with 80.5. They also gave up 71 points per game, which ranked them 152nd in the country. The area where Baylor can excel is at the line because they’re much better from the charity stripe than Colgate.
The Colgate Red Raiders have assembled an exceptional season, winning their conference and emerging as a #14 seed in the tournament. Unfortunately, they have drawn the three-seed Baylor Bears, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be competitive.
Colgate will come out with a high level of intensity, and it should confuse Baylor. This fast start will make this game extremely close at the end.
FanDuel Sportsbook has Colgate at +13.5, and that’s just too many points in this tournament. Take the points with the Red Raiders.
