UConn hasn’t beaten an ACC team this season
Mack Brown won’t coach for UNC in the Fenway Bowl
UConn finished the season winning four of their final five games
The College Football Playoff is the primary focal point of bowl season, but there are still plenty of excellent games on the calendar in other matchups.
The Fenway Bowl between UConn and North Carolina is one prime bowl game after Christmas. Bill Belichick just took the Tar Heels job, but he won’t coach in this game.
The Huskies are a slight underdog, but they have struggled a lot against ACC teams this season. North Carolina has more opt-outs than Connecticut, which should level the playing field.

Team | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
UConn Huskies | +3 (-110) | +130 | Over 52.5 (-110) |
North Carolina Tar Heels | -3 (-110) | -150 | Under 52.5 (-110) |
Jim Mora will lead UConn into a bowl game for the second time in three seasons. The Huskies had a disappointing year in 2023 but responded with a vengeance in 2024.
The Huskies' win total was 4.5; they weren’t expected to reach a bowl game. They went 8-4 and received a fantastic draw in the Fenway Bowl, but they don’t have an easy matchup.
North Carolina football has been in the news for multiple reasons this offseason. The cycle began when the team fired Mack Brown but didn’t allow him to coach in the Fenway Bowl.
Brown is one of the best coaches in college football history and had a solid run with North Carolina. It didn’t match what he did at Texas, but it was still respectable.
Usually, when a coach is fired, a team doesn’t perform well, but North Carolina has a lot of hype heading into the bowl game. The future is bright as they hired Bill Belichick, who has already started to put his input into the team.
Omarion Hampton is also set to play for the Tar Heels, which is a considerable boost. Hampton is one of the best running backs in the country, and while he still may declare for the NFL Draft, he is expected to play in the Fenway Bowl.
UConn’s defense has been better than the offense against strong opponents, and North Carolina fits the mold. We believe the Tar Heels will have their way with the Huskies on offense, so even though UConn doesn’t have many opt-outs, it will still result in a loss for Mora’s team.

My Pick: North Carolina -3 (-115) at FanDuel
UConn is coming off an 8-4 season and playing excellent football. They have Cam Edwards back for this game, as the running back will stay with the program for another season.
The Huskies have beaten bad teams this season. They’re 0-1 against the Big Ten and 0-3 against the ACC. While the program is rising, they have yet to show they can beat great programs.
North Carolina may have lost Mack Brown, but they are hyped after signing Belichick. His presence is already felt around the program; the excitement should carry them to a win.
