While LSU won last year’s encounter 42-30, neither school won matchups in consecutive seasons since LSU did in 2016 and 2017.

Team | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
No. 8 LSU | +2.5 (-105) | +114 | Over 53.5 (-110) |
No. 14 Texas A&M | -2.5 (-115) | -137 | Under 53.5 (-110) |
LSU won six straight games after an opening-week loss to USC (which was not as bad of a loss as it now seems). They took down No. 9 Ole Miss and Arkansas in back-to-back games, bringing them to 3-0 in the SEC.
Looking ahead, the Tigers face No. 15 Alabama, Florida, No. 25 Vanderbilt, and Oklahoma to finish conference play. While that’s far from a cakewalk, it’s nowhere near as difficult as an SEC schedule could be and typically is, making this weekend’s matchup a must-win.
QB Garrett Nussmeier had a tough time against Ole Miss but came up with the biggest play in the biggest moment, a game-winning touchdown pass in overtime. He has 20 total touchdowns and six interceptions and ranks 11th in QBR for the year, while LSU is 31st in scoring (32.5 points per game).
The Tigers’ defense is significantly better than it was a year ago. They allowed 20.5 points per game (down from the 29.5 average in 2023) and rank 29th in defensive EPA per play.
On the other side, A&M is also riding a six-game win streak ever since its season-opening loss to Notre Dame. They embarrassed No. 9 Mizzou 41-10 in their last home game and are the only SEC team that’s 4-0 in conference play.
Sophomore QB Conner Weigman did not have the return he hoped for against Mississippi State as he went 15/25 for 217 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions, though the Aggies still won 34-24.
A&M is 16th in scoring defense (19 points per game allowed) but is just 56th in scoring offense (28 points per game). They rely on their running game, which is responsible for 62.6 percent of called plays and produces 5.4 yards per carry.
A&M has one of the easiest finishes to the season of any team in the SEC. They’ll face South Carolina and Auburn before they meet No. 5 Texas in the final week of the season, but if they win out up until that point, they should be able to lose and still reach the conference championship.

A&M’s defense is better, although not markedly better. Nussmeier is a much better player than Weigman, but he hasn’t been overwhelmingly successful against SEC defenses.
This should be a back-and-forth battle between two teams with everything to prove. LSU’s run defense will be tested and could be the determining factor in the matchup.
