Ole Miss vs. LSU Picks, Predictions, and Odds: Back the Rebels to Score at Will Against the Tigers Defense

  • Ole Miss ranks top-10 in Off Pass Success Rate and PPA

  • Jaxson Dart continues to climb up the oddsboard for the Heisman

  • LSU’s defense ranks below league average in Success Rate, Finishing Drives, and Explosiveness

While the loss to Kentucky was eye opening, the LSU Tigers defense is a massive downgrade in terms of on field production when compared to the Wildcats. That bodes well for Ole Miss as they continue to field one of the more versatile offenses in the nation, a unit that ranks above league average in Success Rate, Finishing Drives, Explosiveness, and Havoc Allowed. With LSU continuing to mightily struggle on defense, the Rebels offense will be in a position to consistently put up points on the board in a high scoring affair.

Ole Miss vs. LSU My Pick

With the Tigers defense continuing to struggle, the Rebels offense will be in a favorable position to consistently move the ball down the field and into scoring territory at a high rate. Factor in the Rebels defense fielding a secondary that can stall out the Tigers heavy pass attack and Ole Miss will also benefit from an uptick in offensive possessions to help clear the over on their inflated team total.

Ole Miss vs. LSU Predictions

Ole Miss Preview

After an offseason full of productive transfer portal additions, the Ole Miss Rebels were projected to be a contender for both the SEC Conference Championship and National Championship heading into the season. Outside of a loss to Kentucky, Ole Miss has looked the part as they currently rank above league average on both sides of the ball in Success Rate, Finishing Drives, Havoc, and Explosiveness.

It is worth noting that Kentucky does field one of the best defenses in the nation, a unit that has now stalled out the Georgia Bulldogs and the Ole Miss Rebels in conference play. Fortunately for the Rebels, the Tigers are a severe drop off in defensive production when compared to the Wildcats as LSU currently ranks below league average in Def Success Rate, Explosiveness, and Finishing Drives.

While LSU does excel at creating disruptions by ranking 26th overall in Havoc, the Rebels rank top-30 in Havoc Allowed as Jaxson Dart has excelled at taking care of the ball while avoiding throwing into dangerous situations. With Dart being able to keep drives alive while avoiding turnovers, the Rebels offense will face minimal resistance in their efforts of creating a high number of scoring opportunities.

LSU Preview

After fielding one of the worst defenses in the nation last year, the LSU Tigers are on a similar trajectory this season as their defense continues to struggle. Outside of occasionally generating pass breakups and tackles for loss with a high Havoc rating, the LSU Tigers have failed to consistently limit opposing offensive production as they rank well below league average in Success Rate, Finishing Drives, and Explosiveness.

Their secondary has been especially bad this year, entering the contest ranked near dead last in Def Pass Success Rate and PPA. That spells potential disaster against the Rebels and their high powered pass attack, having to defend against a unit that ranks top-10 in Pass Success Rate and PPA. The discrepancy in Success Rate is especially alarming as it indicates the Tigers will struggle to stop the Rebels in their efforts of cutting the distance to gain in half on first down, as well as converting on later downs.

While the Tigers front seven has fared slightly better in their efforts of limiting opposing Rush Success Rate, maintaining their high mark will be a struggle as the Rebels rank top-30 in Rush Success Rate, Explosiveness, and PPA. The Rebels versatility on offense will create serious pressure on an already reeling Tigers defense, creating high quality opportunities for Jaxson Dart to move the ball down the field into scoring territory at a consistent rate.
