Preston Stone Over 233.5 Passing Yards (-115) at bet365

SMU is off to a 2-0 start with wins over Nevada and Houston Christian. The team is new to the ACC Conference in 2024, and their schedule will get much more challenging than it has been in the first two weeks. 

Their first big challenge will be on Friday night at home against BYU. The Cougars began their season with a win over Southern Illinois University, 41-10. 

SMU has a chance to be very successful this season because of their quarterback, Preston Stone. Stone is in his fourth year with the program and his second as the starter. 

Last season, he threw for 3,197 yards with 28 touchdowns to just six interceptions. He is off to a similar pace through two games this year. In his first two games, he has completed nearly 60% of his passes for 332 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. 

BYU’s defense was solid in the opener, but they still allowed 240 passing yards per game last year. The defense should be no match for Stone, especially at home.

Maalik Murphy Under 203.5 Passing Yards (-115) at bet365

Maalik Murphy transferred to Duke from Texas in the offseason. He was a backup at Texas to Quinn Ewers, but he seemed ready for the starting job based on his Week 1 effort against Elon.

Elon isn’t on the same level as Northwestern, but Murphy looked solid throwing the ball. He was 26 of 40 for 291 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Despite this, we like him to go under his total of 203.5 against Northwestern. 

One of the reasons he had such a big passing performance against Elon was because of a 55-yard completion. He shouldn’t have many significant gains against the Wildcats, who do an excellent job keeping the ball in front of them on defense. 

Northwestern was the sixth-ranked team in the Big Ten Conference last year in passing yards allowed per game. They will have another strong performance against Murphy, keeping his total down.

Ollie Gordon Over 126.5 Passing Yards (-115) at bet365

Ollie Gordon is one of the top running backs in the country. For good reason, he should be a first-round pick next year. The back is big, physical, and explosive. 

Gordon carried the ball 27 times for 104 yards with two touchdowns in the opener against San Diego State. Gordon’s total is high this week at 126.5, but Arkansas is terrible against the run. 

Oklahoma State should emphasize the run early in this contest behind Gordon. The Razorbacks are on the road and allowed 154.4 rushing yards per game last season. 

Gordon should surpass his total with ease if he receives his expected carries.
