Best NCAAF Week 16 and Bowl Games Parlay Bets: It’s Time for Army vs. Navy

  • Army is the only team in college football to average more than 300 rushing yards per game.

  • UNLV head coach Barry Odom has left the program to become the new head coach of Purdue.

  • West Virginia fired head coach Neil Brown prior to this bowl game.

Right now, college football fans are waiting for the start of the College Football Playoff. In the meantime, though, we have a handful of bowl games to look forward to this weekend. However, there’s also the Army vs. Navy game, which will be included in my parlay below.

After succeeding with our parlay two weeks ago, last week's parlay came up massively short. Penn State could score, but they got too far behind too early; SMU lost by three, and UNLV didn’t keep it as close as I thought they would the second time around.

This week, I’m looking toward Army, California, and Memphis.

This is a three-leg parlay with odds of +453, courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook.

Army -6.5 (-112) at FanDuel Sportsbook

With Army and Navy, we know exactly what we’re going to get offensively.

Both teams run the ball and are in the top four in rushing yards per game.

Army runs on 84.8% of their snaps, while Navy is at 71.7%.

Defensively, though, Army has shown to be the better squad. They allow 15.7 points (tied for sixth), 299.4 total yards (eighth), 97.8 rushing yards (seventh), and 201.5 passing yards (36th) per game.

As for Navy, they allow 164.8 rushing yards (83rd) per game.

Also, it’s unclear if Navy’s starting quarterback, Blake Horvath, will play. In his place would be Braxton Woodson, who played against East Carolina last week and ran for two touchdowns and threw for one more.

At 6.5, I do like Army, though. Bryson Daily was in the Heisman hunt for a bit, and Army was oh-so-close to making the College Football Playoff.

This season, Daily has 264 carries for 1,480 yards and 29 rushing touchdowns. He’s tied with Ashton Jeanty for the most rushing touchdowns in college football.

As mentioned, Army doesn’t pass a ton, but Daily does have eight touchdowns and just one interception.

Army won last year 17-11, and I think they’ll win by a touchdown here. If this gets out to seven, I’d stick with Army, but prepare for this game to end as a push in this parlay.

California ML (-172) at FanDuel Sportsbook

With UNLV losing to Boise State, they land in the LA Bowl and will take on California.

However, this UNLV team will look quite different heading into this one, with head coach Barry Odom moving on to Purdue.

UNLV will be without one key player: cornerback Tony Grimes. He played 380 snaps in coverage this season, allowed a reception percentage of 60.4% across 48 targets, and surrendered just one touchdown.

California is coming off a massive loss to SMU to close the regular season, but quarterback Fernando Mendoza didn’t play due to illness.

Assuming he’s back, he’s had a pretty solid season, completing 67.9% of his passes for 3,004 yards, 16 touchdowns, six picks, and also ran for 334 yards and two more touchdowns.

Right now, I’m settling with the Cal moneyline, but I’m not opposed to the spread at -2.5 either. With Odom departing, we could see more UNLV players depart ahead of this, making it a not-so-fun experience for those who ultimately suit up for them.

Memphis -2.5 (-118) at FanDuel Sportsbook

Playing in the Scooter’s Coffee Friso Bowl is Memphis and West Virginia.

So far, there are already seven opt-outs for West Virginia.

So far, the most notable of that list includes linebacker Josiah Trotter (628 snaps).

Of course, the biggest storyline heading into this game is West Virginia's firing of head coach Neil Brown.

Even at full strength, though, this West Virginia defense didn’t have a good year, allowing 414.8 yards per game, which ranked 100th in college football.

This bodes well for Memphis quarterback Seth Hennigan. He’s thrown for 3,208 yards, 23 touchdowns, and six picks this season. He’s thrown multiple touchdown passes in four of his last five games, including two games with four touchdowns.

Despite Memphis being a double-digit underdog, he was excellent in their win over Tulane, 34-24. He completed 22 of 29 passes (75.9%) for 218 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions.

So, not only does West Virginia have players jumping in the portal already and likely more to come, but their head coach was fired, and there’s an interim staff in place that’s likely preparing for Memphis will simultaneously getting their resumes prepared for their next opportunity, and the West Virginia defense has been an Achilles heel all season.

I’ll lay 2.5 with Memphis.
