Kicking off this parlay is the game that starts the season for us from Dublin, Ireland: Florida State taking on Georgia Tech.
Florida State looks quite different this season, with numerous assets headed to the NFL. Under center is quarterback DJ Uiagalelei, who will take over for Jordan Travis. Other key additions include Roydell Williams, Malik Benson, Jalen Brown, and more.
Georgia Tech is a lot the same team as last year, with Haynes King leading the offense and Jamal Haynes in the backfield.
In 2023, Georgia Tech averaged 3.8 offensive touchdowns, 411.8 yards, 198.4 rushing yards, and 213.4 passing yards per game. Florida State was quite similar regarding the offensive touchdowns per game, but again, this is a completely different team.
Georgia Tech’s biggest issue last season was its defense. They allowed 30.8 points and 449.3 yards per game, which was 123rd out of 133 qualifying teams in the country.
As an underdog, though, Georgia Tech was 7-2 against the spread. A big part of that is the duo of King and Haynes. Coming over from Texas A&M last season, King threw for 2,842 yards, 27 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions while running for 737 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Meanwhile, new Seminoles quarterback Uiagalelei threw for 2,638 yards, 21 touchdowns, and seven interceptions and ran from 219 yards and six touchdowns. He also completed less than 60% of his passes and never had a 300-yard game through the air.
I know that the Yellow Jackets had defensive woes, but they’re also taking on a Florida State team with many new pieces, and the defense has another year of experience.
Look for them to have the ball enough to control the game and keep this a single-digit game.

SMU is now in the ACC, and the team, other than an offensive lineman and running back, is essentially the same as 2023 on offense. On defense, they added plenty of front-seven help, all of which are redshirt seniors or older.
The SMU offense averaged 36.4 points per game in 2023, and quarterback Preston Stone was a big part of that. He completed just about 60% of his passes for 3,197 yards, 28 touchdowns, and six interceptions. He also had nearly 200 rushing yards and four scores. The running back they added, Brashard Smith, is a receiver/running back hybrid. He didn’t get much playing time with Miami (FL), but it appears he’ll be the starter at SMU.
Here, they take on a Nevada team that was a total trainwreck last season. They allowed 33.5 points and 440.9 yards per game while scoring just 18.4 per contest. SMU allowed less than 20 per game.
Nevada’s starting quarterback is Brendon Lewis. In 12 games last season, he threw for 1,313 passing yards, two touchdowns, six interceptions, and had 495 rushing yards and four touchdowns.
Look for SMU to score a bunch while Nevada flails around the 10-point mark. SMU won’t take the foot off the gas here. This is a statement win.

This is my slam dunk pick of the week. In Week 0, Hawaii are hosting Delaware State. This game takes place on Saturday with a midnight eastern kickoff.
Delaware State’s travel plans were massively delayed due to bus issues, which caused them to miss their flight.
So, on top of getting there late in a much different timezone, than they’re in on the East Coast, they’ll be playing a football game at what feels like midnight to them, as Delaware is located on the East Coast.
This is shaping up to be a disaster against a Hawaii team under Timmy Chang that loves to pass the ball. In 2023, the Rainbow Warriors averaged 277.3 passing yards (23rd) and 41.4 pass attempts (seventh) per game. They also led the country in passing play percentage at 64.91%. At home, that was up to 66.58%.
Meanwhile, Delaware State’s quarterback, C.J. Henry, appeared in just one game for them last season, which was a 57-0 blowout against Army. He completed four of five passes for 24 yards. That’s it.
Delaware State also went 1-10 last season with their only win against Virginia University of Lynchburg.
Hawaii by a million here. They should dominate under these circumstances.
