The Golden State Warriors tied their First Round playoff series against the Sacramento Kings at two games apiece after winning Game 4. Despite a late error by Stephen Curry, who called a timeout Golden State didn't have, the Warriors held on to win 126-125 when Harrison Barnes missed a potential game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer. Klay Thompson contributed 26 points, while Curry led the team with 32 points and five 3-pointers. The next game in the best-of-seven series will occur at Sacramento's Golden 1 Center.
De'Aaron Fox was the top performer for the Kings with 38 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists. His 3-pointer with just under 29 seconds left brought the Kings within one point, but they could not seize the lead. Harrison Barnes had an opportunity to clinch the game, but his open shot at the buzzer hit the back of the rim. Despite the loss, the Kings should be confident going into their next game.
Returning from a one-game suspension, Draymond Green significantly impacted the Warriors with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists. Kerr started Jordan Poole instead of Green and rewarded his coach by scoring 22 points. Andrew Wiggins contributed 18 points and eight rebounds.
In two teams without dedicated shot blockers, free throws were determinant to the outcome of this game. The Golden State Warriors got to the free throw line 24 times to the Sacramento Kings' 18 times. The Warriors converted on 22 of their free throws, while the Kings converted on 15.
The Kings and Warriors continue to battle on the glass, tying their Game 4 efforts with both teams collecting 44 rebounds on the night. However, Sacaramento's effort on the offensive glass was felt more, winning 12 offensive rebounds to Golden State's 8. Kevon Looney led all players with 14 rebounds in the Warriors' Game 4 victory.
The paint battle was also even through Game 4. The Sacramento Kings and Golden State Warriors scored 50 points in the paint. After losing in paint scoring through Games 1 and 2, home-court advantage has allowed them to be more competitive.
The Sacramento Kings have lost all their momentum and may now be missing De'Aaron Fox for Game 5 due to injury. The Golden State Warriors were their usual selves on their home court, high-scoring and defensively attuned, but they're yet to show that quality on the road. With the series tied at 2-2, Game 5 is crucial for either team to gain control.
The Golden State Warriors have been poor on the road all season. They fall short of the spread by an average of 5.6 points on the road, losing by an average margin of 5.3 points. As the away side, Golden State owns an 11-31-0 ATS Record, covering the spread just 26.2% of the time. Through 41 regular season road games, the Warriors went 11-30.
The Sacramento Kings thrived on their home court, as they were already one of the NBA's best scoring teams. They own a home ATS Record of 28-15-0, covering the spread 65.1% of the time. Sacramento covers the spread by an average of 1.4 points, with a 1.5-point margin of victory in wins.
Golden State Warriors ATS Record: 40-45-1
The Golden State Warriors showed off their champion-level quality through their two home games against the Sacramento Kings. The Warriors rallied back and leveled the series despite going down 0-2 and losing Draymond Green for one match. Back on the road, the Warriors will need to try and carry some of their home form over with them.
In their Game 4 victory over the Sacramento Kings, the Golden State Warriors scored 126 points on 50.0% from the field and 41.2% from three-point range. The Warriors' patented ball movement was a signature in their victory, as they collected 31 assists to just 11 turnovers on the night.
Golden State's offense is promising as they enter Game 5, but they'll need to sort out a defense allowing 115.5 points per game this series. Stephen Curry led the way with 32 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists, but Klay Thompson starred in the backcourt with 26 points on 9 of 15 shooting. Starring off the bench was Draymond Green, who, fresh off of suspension, posted 12 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 assists despite going just 3 of 14 on the night.
Sacramento Kings ATS Record: 48-37-1
The Sacramento Kings dominated their first two games against the Golden State Warriors. However, when the series shifted to San Francisco, the Kings' momentum was lost, and the series returned to level. As the Kings try to regain control of the series on their home court, they'll need to prove that the occasion isn't too great for them.
Sacramento was a shot away from being 3-1 in the series, but now they'll have to work their way back in control of the tie. In their 125-126 loss to the Warriors, the Kings shot 47.1% from the field and 40.0% from three on 14 makes. They were cautious with the ball, dishing 25 assists while committing just 10 turnovers on the evening.
With their top scorer potentially unavailable, the Kings need an all-around team effort to win Game 5. De'Aaron Fox starred once again for the Sacramento Kings in Game 4, posting 38 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists on 45.2% from the field and 36.4% from three - unfortunately, he may be sidelined for Game 5. Also, Rookie Keegan Murray finally emerged for the Kings in Game 4 when he posted 23 points, 7 rebounds, and 1 assist on 69.2% from the field and 71.4% from three on 5 made.
