UTA: Battle on the Glass

The Utah Jazz are performing well on the offensive side of the ball. But they’re struggling where they thought they’d be strong.

In Game 3 against the Grizzlies, the Jazz struggled to protect their own glass. The Grizzlies were able to collect 16 offensive rebounds despite Utah winning the overall rebounding battle.

Second-chance opportunities need to be reigned in if they hope to return to Utah up 3-1. It won’t be easy, so rebounding will need to be a team affair.

Jazz Key Player: (G) Donovan Mitchell

Donovan Mitchell’s shooting might not be incredibly efficient at the moment, but his energy has inspired the Utah Jazz offence.

In his last game Mitchell posted 29 points, five assists, and one steal on 39.1% shooting from the field. While his efficiency wasn’t there, he made up for it by converting on nine of his 11 free throw attempts.

Game 4 will be crucial for the Jazz as they’ll be returning to Utah for Game 5. If Mitchell can put on an efficient shooting night, the Jazz will have the opportunity to close out the series at home.

MEM: Defend the Three-Point Line

The difference between the Grizzlies and the Jazz isn’t as great as some score lines suggest. However, Memphis’ inability to defend the three is hurting their chances.

In Game 3 the Grizzlies allowed the Jazz to shoot 44.2% from three. Allowing Utah to convert on 19 of their 43 three-point field goals made it difficult for Memphis to catch up.

Some adjustments in their defensive scheme and the Grizzlies can easily even up the series.

Grizzlies Key Player: (G) Ja Morant

Looking like a true star of the future, Morant has grown as this series has worn on. Down 2-1 in the series, the Grizzlies need a big performance from Morant to bring the series level.

In his last game Morant did his best, posting 28 points seven assists, and hitting two three-pointers. As the primary ball handler he was blitzed, as evidenced by his four turnovers.

Morant’s ability to get to the rim is unmatched on his team and it opens up the Grizzlies’ game entirely. If they can secure the three-point line, they could bring the series level.
