How can the Suns beat the Mavericks?
The Phoenix Suns have the blueprint to beat the Dallas Mavericks, they just need to put their plan into action once more to get to the Conference Finals. They were able to limit Dallas’ attack last time out, something they’ll need to do once more.
In the Phoenix Suns’ Game 5 victory over the Dallas Mavericks, they were able to limit their offensive productivity. On top of forcing 16 turnovers on the night, they only allowed the Mavericks to shoot 38% from the field and 25% from three-point range.
If the Suns can maintain their defensive standards from Game 5, the Mavericks should be in for a tough night. Head coach Monty Williams will hope that there won’t be much drop off between his starter and bench contributions.

Devin Booker is one win away from pushing his Phoenix Suns to another Conference Finals. Once again he was excellent for the Suns, this time taking command from early to establish the Suns’ position.
In their Game 5 win over the Dallas Mavericks, Devin Booker posted 28 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 blocks in 35 minutes of play. He was 11 of 20 from the field and converted on 3 of his 7 three-point field goal attempts.
With Chris Paul back and Booker’s full focus on playmaking, he was able to have an efficient night. Scoring 24 of his 28 in the first and third quarter, Booker’s ability to establish the Suns’ offence from the beginning of halves is key.
How can the Mavericks beat the Suns?
The Dallas Mavericks are a talented team, but the Suns defence has been too great for them to overcome. If they hope to enforce their offensive gameplan, they need to improve on what was a dreadful playmaking effort.
In the Dallas Mavericks’ Game 5 loss, they were held to a one-on-one game and during good offensive opportunities they couldn’t convert. On just 27 of 71 field goals made, the Mavericks assisted on just 7 made shots.
While Luka Doncic is the main playmaker for the Mavericks, they need to be effective moving the ball as a team. The likes of Jalen Brunson and Spencer Dinwiddie are good scorers in their own right, but they need to help enforce the offence with so much defensive focus on Doncic.

In the Mavericks’ Game 5 loss to the Phoenix Suns Doncic was nearly his usual self. He posted 28 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals in 35 minutes of play. Phoenix held Doncic’s playmaking in check, which limited Dallas’ ability to keep up in the scoring department.
Odds are that Doncic will find his scoring numbers, regardless of efficiency. What’s crucial is how he creates for others. If he can’t escape the one-on-one game, the Suns have the advantage.
