The San Antonio Spurs (18-19) are taking on the Los Angeles Lakers (20-16) on the West Coast on Monday night.
The showdown will be LA’s first game in nearly a week due to the devastation of the California wildfires, which claimed the home of Lakers coach JJ Redick, among many others. They’re 12-5 in their building for the season, while the Spurs are just 6-11 on the road.
Meanwhile, this will be another opportunity for Victor Wembanyama to ingratiate himself with the American audience as his historic sophomore campaign persists.
Here, we will break down and analyze the betting odds for the Spurs vs. Lakers matchup on Monday.
The Spurs are 19-18 (51.4 percent) against the spread, 11-12 (47.8 percent) ATS as an underdog, and 9-8 (52.9 percent) ATS on the road.
The Lakers are 18-18 (50 percent) ATS, 9-10 (47.4 percent) ATS as a favorite, and 10-7 (58.8 percent) ATS at home.

This season has been a coming of age for the Spurs. They signed veteran talent in free agency to add to their leadership and bottom line, but they have also seen their young players take steps forward and help transform the franchise from a bottomfeeder over the last few years to one that is contending for the Western Conference playoffs.
The player (literally) at the center of that is 21-year-old Victor Wembanyama. The French sensation averaged 25.1 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 4.0 blocks on nearly 48 percent shooting, which is impressive given his high three-point volume.
The Spurs rank 19th in offensive and 13th in defensive rating for the season leading to an average net rating of -0.9 (17th). They’re right at the league average in rebound rate and turnover frequency, and their excellent ball movement allowed them to lead the league in assist percentage.
One of San Antonio’s biggest hindrances is its inefficiency from the perimeter. The team is only 26th in three-point percentage (34.2), although it holds teams to the seventh-lowest percentage (35.1) in the league.
Despite all of the positives, the visitors will enter the match riding a three-game losing streak and were defeated by the Milwaukee Bucks by 16 points their last time on the court. They were also outscored by 4.4 points per 100 possessions on the road (22nd) and are 0-2 against the Lakers this season, losing both times at home.
LA scored 119 and 120 points in those two games, well above its season average of 111.8.

Coach Redick said recently that he wants his team to give California residents hope and to serve as an escape. He will have his first opportunity to do that after six days of rest since a 21-point loss to the Dallas Mavericks.
The Lakers are 13th in offensive and 23rd in defensive rating for the year, leading to a -2.4 net rating (20th). However, that doesn’t come anywhere close to telling the story of their season.
Redick, in his first year coaching anything above his son’s travel team, needed time to tinker with the team’s approach and to handle a trade that saw the team exchange D’Angelo Russel for Dorian Finney-Smith and Shake Milton.
LA’s offensive rating jumped to ninth over the last 10 games, while the defense remained stuck at 23rd. They seem to give better efforts and have more coverage with Finney-Smith on the court, but he hasn’t knocked down enough shots to yet warrant a place in the starting lineup.
While things have been far from perfect for this team, they find themselves 13th with a +2.9 net rating at home. That gives them a strong on-paper advantage against a Spurs team that struggled to perform on the road.
Anthony Davis and LeBron James have been their usual excellent selves, while the story as of late has been the backcourt tandem of Austin Reaves and Max Christie. The former has shone both as a scorer and facilitator in the wake of the Russell departure, while Christie’s insertion into the starting lineup saw him average 14.6 points and 2.6 rebounds with strong defense on 42.9 percent three-point shooting over his last eight games.

Spurs vs. Lakers pick: Lakers -3.5 (-110) at BetMGM
The Lakers are more rested than any team in the league not named the Los Angeles Clippers and are in their home arena, where they’ve been extremely effective. They also beat the Spurs on the road twice already.
San Antonio didn’t look great in its recent outings and is facing a team with an elite interior defender, which should somewhat limit the effectiveness of their best player, Wembanyama.
We want to take Redick at his word and believe that he wants the Lakers to be an escape for California locals, which is why we’d look to the purple and gold to cover the 3.5 points on Monday.
