Detroit Pistons vs. New York Knicks Betting Pick

Detroit has performed admirably through their first round series against the Knicks, showing how talented they are to challenge the third-seed to such an impressive degree. Inexperience and crucial errors have burdened their chances at success, and in an elimination game in Madison Square Garden, the Pistons are at the mercy of the Knicks. New York isn't flawless, but the potency and experience of their star men has carried them through more often than not. Expect the Knicks to claim the series and progress to the second round.

Detroit Pistons Preview

The Detroit Pistons have a lot of work to do, starting with Game 5 on Tuesday night. Only 13 teams have overcome a 3-1 deficit to win the series, and Detroit aims to become team number 14. If they want to join NBA history, Cade Cunningham, Jalen Duren, and their cast of wiley veterans will play like there’s no tomorrow.

While it was a close game, the Detroit Pistons need to clean up their performance from three on both ends for Game 5. They allowed the Knicks to hit 15 threes on 45.5% from range while hitting just seven on 24.1% efficiency. Add in their 17 turnovers, and the Pistons are primed for a first-round loss if they can’t clean up their play.

The Pistons were one of the NBA’s stronger teams against the spread this season, posting a 43-40-3 ATS Record, including playoff games, which ranks 11th in the NBA. They have a 51.8% cover percentage, a +1.7 margin of victory, and a +2.2 ATS +/- this season. Detroit hit the over on the total (216.5) in the last game but failed outright against the spread.

Cade Cunningham stood out for the Pistons in their last game, posting 25 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists, and four blocks in 42 minutes. He was supported by Jalen Duren, who had just six points but also contributed 17 rebounds, including six on the offensive glass. The Pistons are best when they get to the rim and create second chances, so expect Cunningham and Duren to be active throughout the night.

Regarding the Detroit Pistons injury report, Jaden Ivey (Leg) is unavailable, while Isaiah Stewart (Knee) is a game-time decision after missing five of his last six games.

New York Knicks Preview

The New York Knicks have faced a surprising challenge in the Pistons through four games of the Eastern Conference first round, but they’re now one victory from the second round. Back on home court after a controversial non-call to end the game, New York can claim the series on their terms. Brunson and Towns will lead the way, but New York’s role players must step up to earn victory.

Game 4 was challenging for the Knicks, but they overcame the upstart Pistons. They shot a paltry 37.4% from the field and lost the rebounding battle by 16. Their three-point shooting kept them in the game, but they can’t afford another off-night at the rim. To clinch the series and progress to the first round, the Knicks must rediscover production from role players like OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges to outpace the Pistons.

The Knicks were a coin toss against the spread this season, posting a 43-42-1 ATS record, 13th in the NBA. They have a 50.6% cover percentage, a +4.0 margin of victory, and a -0.8 ATS +/- this season. New York won outright (+115) in Game 4 and covered the spread (+2.5).

Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns stood out for the Knicks in Game 4, combining for 59 points, 14 rebounds, 12 assists, and nine made threes. Unfortunately, their efforts were balanced out by Bridges and Anunoby, who combined to score 16 points on 6 of 25 from the field. The Knicks star men will lead the way again in Game 5, but the role players will determine their chances of success.

The New York Knicks have no injuries at the moment.
