PHO: Move the Ball!

Ball movement is paramount to the Phoenix Suns’ success. While Chris Paul is an excellent facilitator, if they don’t move the ball as a team they struggle to find shots.

When the Phoenix Suns faced off with the Boston Celtics, their inability to make plays was their downfall. It was their second-lowest assist total on the season, unsurprisingly it was also their second-lowest scoring total.

Against the league’s fourth-best defence, the Suns can’t afford to play hero ball if they want to win this match.

Suns Key Player: (G) Devin Booker

Phoenix Suns All-Star Devin Booker is a threat from all positions on the court, but the Suns’ recent scoring struggles may call for Booker to be more of a facilitator than a scorer.

In his last game, a loss to the Boston Celtics, Booker posted 36 points, three rebounds, and one assist. To make matters worse, Booker committed three turnovers in the loss.

The Knicks have a lot of capable perimeter defenders, so Booker will need to make plays for others if his offence isn’t clicking early.

NYK: Find Opportunities for Role Players

The New York Knicks are on a nine game winning streak, best in the NBA. They are coming off of a win over the Toronto Raptors where Julius Randle starred, but the role players brought the match home.

In the fourth quarter of their last game, the Knicks went to a more opportunistic defence. Rather than letting Randle work on an island, the Knicks found their role players for opportune baskets. New York’s four bench players combined for 14 of the team’s 32 fourth-quarter points.

The Suns employ one of the most versatile defensive lineups in the NBA. If New York wants to extend their winning streak to ten, they can’t afford to play selfish basketball.

Knicks Key Player: (G-F) Reggie Bullock

While RJ Barrett and Julius Randle are the stars of the Knicks offence, Reggie Bullock has shown the ability to be productive off of the attention they garner.

In his last game, Bullock posted 16 points on six of 10 shooting from the field. His three three-point field goals all came in the second quarter, when the Raptors were closing the gap.

With the attention that Randle draws, Bullock is a perfect complement to Tom Thibodeau’s offence. If he can convert his opportunities efficiently, the Suns’ defence will have their hands full.
