The Denver Nuggets and the Minnesota Timberwolves enter this game with a 2-2 record. Nikola Jokic has carried the Nuggets to .500 while the rest of the squad struggles to make a consistent impact. The Timberwolves have not found their groove after bringing in Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo. One of these teams will use this win as a platform to get back to competing for the top seed in the Western Conference.

The Minnesota Timberwolves haven’t gotten off to their desired start this season. After bringing in Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo this past summer, the Timberwolves haven’t had the synergy needed to challenge some of the top teams in the NBA. Owning a 2-2 record through four games, their Friday matchup against the Denver Nuggets will be another test of their quality.
Through four games, the Minnesota Timberwolves are 1-3-0 against the spread, posting a 25.0% cover percentage, a 0.0 margin of victory, and a -5.3 margin of victory. They only covered the spread in their second game of the season against the Sacramento Kings, a -1.0, where they won 117-115.
The Timberwolves haven’t met the lofty performance standards from last season. They’re ranked 21st in points per game (111.5) despite ranking fifth overall in threes made per game (16.5). The Nuggets offense has struggled beyond Nikola Jokic, so Minnesota has an opportunity to get back above the .500 mark with an impressive win.

Anthony Edwards has been excellent through his first four regular season games. After a gold medal-winning summer, Edwards carried that form into the new NBA campaign. With adjustments in the frontcourt yet to take, Edwards is doing his best to compensate.
Through the early stages of the 2024-25 NBA season, Anthony Edwards is averaging 30.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 5.5 threes per game on 45.6% from the field and 41.5% from three. In his last game, a six-point loss to Dallas, Edwards posted a season-high 37 points, six rebounds, and seven made threes on 60.0% shooting.
In four games against the Nuggets last season, Edwards averaged 26.0 points, 4.5 assists, and 1.5 threes on 48.1% efficiency and 23.1% from beyond the arc. The Nuggets have been struggling defensively, so expect Edwards, between his newfound scoring volume and Denver’s defensive issues, to have another big scoring night.

Through four games, Nikola Jokic has proven to be a contender for MVP this season. Putting up incredible numbers through the early season, Jokic has willed his Nuggets to victory even when it seemed beyond their grasp.
Through four games this season, Jokic is averaging 31.5 points, 12.3 rebounds, and 9.3 assists on 57.3% from the field and 55.0% from three-point range. In his most recent game, a five-point win over the Nets, Jokic put up 29 points, 18 rebounds, and 16 assists – a considerable effort reaffirming his place as one of the league’s best.
In four games against the Timberwolves last season, Jokic put up 33.3 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 4.3 assists on 58.4% from the field and 40.0% from beyond the arc. Accounting for 27.2% of the Nuggets’ points through four games, Jokic projects to have another big scoring night as his team continues to struggle with production off the bench.

Rudy Gobert receives a fair amount of slander from media and players on social media, but beyond it all, he remains one of the NBA’s premiere rim protectors and rebounders. He’ll be tasked with containing Nikola Jokic when the Timberwolves face the Nuggets on Friday night. While Jokic’s MVP-level productivity will always be present, Gobert can also cause problems for the Nuggets.
Through four games, Gobert is averaging 9.5 points, 11.3 rebounds, 2.5 offensive rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game on 60.9% shooting from the field. In his last game, a loss to the Dallas Mavericks, Gobert played just 31 minutes and scored seven points, eight rebounds, and four offensive rebounds. Against the Nuggets, Gobert has shown much more success.
Facing the Denver Nuggets three times last season, Gobert cleared 11.5 rebounds in every match. He averaged 12.7 points, 13.0 rebounds, and 3.3 offensive rebounds. The Timberwolves offense hasn’t had the diversity needed for Gobert to get on track offensively, but he’s still been influential on the glass.
