Nets vs. Knicks Prediction and Odds for November 15: In-Season Tournament Tussle in the Big Apple

The Brooklyn Nets and New York Knicks will take the floor for an inner-state showdown in the NBA In-Season Tournament on Friday.

The Nets have not played an In-Season Tournament game this season and are coming off a 139-114 loss to the Boston Celtics on Wednesday.

The Knicks beat the Philadelphia 76ers 111-99 in their first IST game but were defeated by the Chicago Bulls by one point their last time on the floor. Jalen Brunson missed a would-be game-winning shot as time expired to seal the loss.

Here, we will analyze the matchup and share our favorite Nets vs. Knicks odds.

Nets vs. Knicks Prediction

Brooklyn Nets Preview

The Nets are a bit of a hodgepodge of a basketball team. They don’t have great spacing or interior scoring, have a blend of journeymen veterans and inexperienced prospects who aren’t stars, but are looking to forge solid NBA careers nonetheless.

Brooklyn ranks 12th in offensive and 24th in defensive rating and was outscored by an average of 2.6 points per 100 possessions. They’re also 24th in rebound rate and just about average in turnover percentage.

Given that the modern NBA is all about winning from beyond the three-point line, most teams put an emphasis on their offensive and defensive abilities from distance. The Nets are 13th in three-point percentage (36.6) and 15th in percentage allowed to opponents (35.7), and they make 2.5 more threes than their opponent on average.

Fourth-year pro Cam Thomas leads the team in scoring with 23.8 points per night on 43.5 percent shooting from the field and 36.4 percent from range. Dennis Schroder has also been great, averaging 19.3 points, his most since 2017-18.

The Nets run into trouble when their starters aren’t on the court. They’re only 20th in bench net rating and don’t have any member of the reserves that averages double-figures in scoring.

The Nets still have to play the Orlando Magic, Philadelphia 76ers, and Charlotte Hornets before the Group Stage of the IST concludes. They were solid to start the year but lost three of their last four and need to get back on track if they want to advance to the knockout round.

New York Knicks Preview

The Knicks are still working to figure out who they are. Karl-Anthony Towns has had explosive scoring nights and Jalen Brunson has been fairly consistent scoring the ball, while the team made 38.7 percent of its three-point attempts (sixth).

Offense is not the issue for the Knicks. While they rank fourth in the league in offensive rating (118.6), they're only 20th in defensive rating (114.4). Towns has been terrible defending the interior, and the absences of Mitchell Robinson and Isaiah Hartenstein have been noticeable.

In the defense of the team, they played the second-hardest schedule in the league according to strength of schedule ratings. They have a manageable three-game stretch with two games against the Nets and one against the Washington Wizards on the immediate horizon before they embark on a road trip to face four Western Conference teams.

Chemistry will take time to develop, and until it does, the defense is going to continue to struggle. Tom Thibodeau also appears stuck in his ways and is playing his starters heavy minutes, which has caused concern that the players will suffer injuries before the season is over.

Brooklyn might not have a bunch of individual stars and scoring threats, but they move the ball and force the defense to rotate. This will be a nice test for a team that is superior, but that is getting an underdog with nothing to lose and that has been highly successful against the spread.

Nets vs. Knicks Betting Pick

The Knicks’ offense has been fun to watch, particularly with the usage of Towns. However, the defense has been disjointed and led to a number of communication breakdowns.

The In-Season Tournament might not be as entrenched in NBA history as the Finals or traditional playoffs, but it has increased the intensity of games across the league.

The Nets have the second-best record against the spread in the league and are coming off of a blowout loss. Professional athletes typically don’t take kindly to being embarrassed, and we expect a fairly close matchup in the In-Season Tournament.
