Miami Heat vs Boston Celtics Predictions and Picks

Our Pick
The Heat almost gave it all away in their last game against the Celtics. While Boston will be motivated, they are shorthanded and Miami just need to make some simple defensive adjustments.

MIA: Control the Game

The Miami Heat are coming off of a victory against the Boston Celtics in their last match. While they controlled most of the matchup, it was certainly a nail-biter as the second half wore on.

The Heat won the first half 79 to 53, but they lost the second half 51 to 71. While most of the Miami Heat role players found their rhythm in the first half, it was mainly Jimmy Butler keeping them afloat with 22 points in the second half alone.

Head coach Erick Spoelstra will want his team to be more consistent as the game grows. They likely won’t have another massive first-half lead to save them.

Heat Key Player: (F) Jimmy Butler

Jimmy Butler has grown into one of the premiere talents in the NBA. While his scoring rate was impressive in his last match, his ability as a playmaker was just as valuable.

Butler was a match-leading +10 in his last game against the Celtics, posting 26 points, 11 assists, eight rebounds, and two steals on 64.3% shooting.

His ability to flip the switch is incredible, as he collected seven on his 11 assists in the first half and 22 of his 26 points in the second half. How he gets his teammates involved will determine if the Heat are victorious.

BOS: Set the Defensive Tone Early

The Boston Celtics have all the qualities of a good defensive team. However against the Miami Heat, their defensive focus escaped them to open the game.

Despite a solid defensive group including Robert Williams, Jayson Tatum, and Marcus Smart, the Celtics allowed the Heat to shoot 65.1% from the field in the first half of their 130 to 124 defeat.

Between the 28 made field goals and 12 free-throw attempts, the Celtics must find a way to limit the Heat. Considering most of the offence runs through Jimmy Butler, they’ll have to find a way to slow him down.

Celtics Key Player: (G) Evan Fournier

French guard Evan Fournier finally got the chance to join a winning team when the Boston Celtics acquired him. With Jaylen Brown out due to injury, Fournier is finding more shots than ever.

In his last game against the Heat, Fournier contributed 30 points, eight assists, and three rebounds on 68.8% shooting from the field. He also hit a game-high seven three-pointers.

While the scoring is ultimately what the Celtics need from Fournier, the scoring efficiency is what will help the Celtics in their quest for a victory.
