Luka Doncic struggled in Game 1 against the Oklahoma City Thunder, but don't expect him to be kept down for long. The 2023-24 NBA MVP third-place finisher will always be central to the Mavericks' game plan, but his production on the boards has been waning over the past few games.
It's worth noting that Doncic is currently battling a knee injury, which may be affecting his performance. Despite this, he's maintaining an impressive average of 28.3 points, 9.4 assists, 8.4 rebounds, and 2.4 threes per game on 39.5% shooting in the 2024 NBA Playoffs. In his last game against the Thunder, he managed to contribute 19 points, nine assists, six rebounds, and one three on 31.6% shooting.
Doncic is a +120 to collect under 8.5 rebounds when he faces the Thunder on Thursday night. He has collected under 8.5 rebounds in three straight games and three of his last five matches. Expect Doncic to bounce back in the scoring column, but with the adjustments to the Mavericks lineup and the Thunder defense, Doncic has yet to focus on the glass as much.
Bet on Luka Doncic at DraftKings
Kyrie Irving has taken on the role of the second star of the Dallas Mavericks this season, but the team has been most successful when he balances his scoring and playmaking efforts. As the Mavs try to level the series at 1-1, expect Irving to adjust as the Thunder defense collapses on Doncic.
In seven games this postseason, Irving is averaging 25.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 3.6 threes per game on 51.2% from the field and 47.2% from three-point range. In Game 1 against the Thunder, Irving put up 20 points, three assists, and three threes on 50.0% from the field.
Irving is a +100 to dish out over 4.5 assists on Thursday night. He’s cleared 4.5 assists in three of his last five games but is yet to do so against the Thunder. Irving’s focus has been on the scoring end this postseason, but he’s shown quality as a playmaker to get Dallas’ offense running.
Bet on Kyrie Irving at DraftKings
Fresh off of being named the runner-up for the NBA Most Valuable Player Award, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will try to lead his Thunder to a 2-0 series lead over the Dallas Mavericks. Coming off a tremendous Game 1 performance, Gilgeous-Alexander projects to have another impressive game.
In five postseason performances, Gilgeous-Alexander has averaged 27.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 5.8 assists, on 46.6% from the field and 33.3% from three-point range. In Game 1 against the Mavericks, Gilgeous-Alexander contributed 29 points, nine assists, nine rebounds, and two threes on 42.1% shooting from the field.
Gilgeous-Alexander is a +124 to collect over 6.5 assists when he faces the Mavericks in Game 2. He has cleared 6.5 assists in two of his last five games, including in the opening match against Dallas this series. After being named runner-up to the MVP Award, expect a big performance from Gilgeous-Alexander on all fronts, especially in the playmaking department, as his opponents try to limit him offensively.
Bet on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander at DraftKings
Chet Holmgren may not have won Rookie of the Year, but he has been the most impactful first-year player through the NBA Playoffs. When Game 2 tips off between the Thunder and Mavericks, Holmgren will be central to his team's two-way play.
In his first postseason experience, Holmgren has averaged 16.0 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks per game on 47.6% from the field and 32.1% from the three-point range. Game 1 against the Mavericks saw Holmgren put up 19 points, seven rebounds, three blocks, and two threes on 50.0% shooting.
Chet Holmgren's defensive quality is among the best in the league. He is a +114 to contribute over 2.5 blocks when he faces the Mavericks on Thursday night. His ability to clear 2.5 blocks in three of his last five games and 34 regular-season appearances is a testament to his defensive skills. With Holmgren on their side, the Thunder have been able to hold their opponents to under 100 points in every playoff game so far, instilling confidence in his shot blocking quality.
