Magic vs. 76ers Prediction and Odds for December 4: Magic Up to Third, Sixers Second-Worst in the East

The Philadelphia Eagles (5-14) will host the Orlando Magic (15-8) in a matchup between two Eastern Conference teams on Wednesday.

The Sixers entered the season as one of the top teams in NBA Finals futures odds, but they have the second-worst record in the East nearly a quarter of the way into the season, and Joel Embiid is expected to miss yet another game.

The Magic, on the other hand, are making good on the potential they showed as a young team last year and are up to third in the conference despite being without Paolo Banchero for more than a month.

Here, we will analyze the betting odds and share our favorite Magic vs. 76ers betting picks for Wednesday.

Magic vs 76ers Prediction

Magic vs. 76ers Betting Odds for Wednesday, December 4

The Magic are a league-best 12-3 (80 percent) against the spread as a favorite, 14-9 (60.9 percent) ATS overall, and 6-8 (42.9 percent) ATS on the road. Notably, they were also one of the best teams ATS last year.

The Sixers are only ahead of the Washington Wizards in record ATS at 6-13 (31.6 percent), 2-7 (22.2 percent) ATS at home, and 3-8 (27.3 percent) ATS as an underdog.

Magic vs. 76ers Prediction

Orlando Magic Preview

The Magic are putting on a masterclass on how to establish an identity, build from within, and bolster a roster with underrated but impactful free-agency moves. Not only do they have nearly two wins per loss, but they are eighth in net rating and allowed the third-fewest points per 100 possessions.

The offense is still a work in progress for the Floridians, who rank 22nd in offensive efficiency. That will change once Banchero returns to the lineup, but their defense and aggression on the boards (eighth in rebound rate) give them paths to victories even without their best scorer.

Orlando’s biggest issue is its three-point shooting. They made just 31.7 percent of their attempts, the worst mark in the league, and don’t have a player who averaged more than 17 minutes per game shooting better than 34 percent from deep.

As bad as that is, and although they aren’t meant to be a team that goes bombs-away from three, there should be some regression to the mean eventually.

Franz Wagner is also having a tremendous season and has been nothing short of brilliant as of late. The 23-year-old dropped 30 points and six assists in Tuesday night’s loss to the New York Knicks and averaged 26.9 points, 6.9 assists, and 5.9 rebounds on 45.8 percent shooting over the last month.

All that being said, the Magic are only 6-8 straight up and ATS on the road. This is a perfect opportunity for them to pounce on a bad team after they were shell-shocked by the Knicks last night.

Philadelphia 76ers Preview

What a catastrophic, disastrous, abhorrent season this has been for the Sixers. From getting very little production from mega-money signing Paul George, to Tyrese Maxey calling out Joel Embiid for his lack of professionalism, to Embiid himself missing all but four games, and the team playing at an extremely low level, the past couple of months have been forgettable at best.

The Sixers are 26th in net rating (-7.1) and have the third-worst offense in the sport. Their defense is league-average, and they had to scratch and claw to earn a six-point win against the Charlotte Hornets on Tuesday night.

Nick Nurse has proven himself to be a winning coach, but he appears to be making a mistake in relegating rookie Jared McCain to the bench and lowering his minutes. Even though George and Maxey are back and healthy again, McCain offered the offensive firepower Philly’s sputtering offense desperately needed.

One of the biggest mismatches in this game could come on the glass, where the Sixers are already the third-worst team in the NBA and could be even worse without Embiid and Andre Drummond.

On top of that, as much as the Magic have been a completely different team on the road, the Sixers were outscored by an average of 8.5 points per 100 possessions in their building—the third-worst mark in the league.

Magic vs. 76ers Betting Pick

The Sixers should be much better than what they’ve proven to be thus far. They also won back-to-back games, although they were only against the Hornets and Detroit Pistons.

Orlando’s defense could not contain the Knicks on Tuesday, but both teams are on the second night of a back-to-back, and Orlando’s youthful roster is better equipped to handle the physical demands.

The Magic have also been a much more profitable betting option over the course of the season. With a line this low, the pick makes itself.
