Jayson Tatum enters the NBA season off a gold medal-winning performance at the Paris Olympics. Tatum, the definitive star of the Boston Celtics, is set for a big season after failing to claim NBA Finals MVP during his 2024 Finals run.
Through the 2023-24 NBA season, Tatum averaged 26.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 3.1 threes per game on 47.1% from the field and 37.6% from three. He was excellent against the Knicks, averaging 26.2 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 5.8 assists on 50.5% shooting.
Tatum will have his hands full against the Knicks’ overload of wing defenders, including Anunoby, Bridges, and Hart. Still, on opening night, on his home court, after Boston’s Championship ring ceremony, Tatum projects to maintain his scoring success against a hungry Knicks squad.

It was a shock to the NBA world when Karl-Anthony Towns was traded from the Minnesota Timberwolves to the New York Knicks. The perennial All-Star now plies his trade in the Big Apple, where his shooting projects make a difference in the Knicks’ pursuit of an NBA Championship.
In 62 games for the Timberwolves last season, Towns averaged 21.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.2 threes per game on 50.4% from the field and 41.6% from three-point range. In two meetings against the Celtics last season, Towns averaged 16.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 4.5 assists on 40.7% shooting and 21.4% from beyond the arc.
Towns will line up as the sole big man for the Knicks on Tuesday night, as he matches up with the Celtics frontcourt of Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford. The town has been excellent on the glass through preseason, but the lofty goal of clearing 11.5 boards may be too great for the new Knicks center on opening night.

The 2024 NBA Finals MVP Jaylen Brown continues to be overlooked by the public. After a stellar postseason that saw him lead the Boston Celtics to the NBA Championship, he was left off the USA Olympic basketball team that won gold in Paris this past summer. Expect Jaylen Brown to prove the doubters wrong once again.
In 70 games last season, Brown averaged 23.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 2.1 threes per game on 49.9% from the field and 35.4% from three-point range. He averaged 19.0 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.8 assists in five games against the Knicks last season, shooting 45.7% from the field.
The raw numbers from last season don’t bode well for Brown, but further inspection suggests success. New York now runs a one-big lineup that Brown can compete against on the glass, and his 2024 postseason rebound numbers more than prove his rebounding tenacity.

OG Anunoby signed an extension with the New York Knicks this past summer after proving himself to be an invaluable squad member after being acquired from the Toronto Raptors. Now their primary three-and-D threat, Anunoby projects to thrive in the new-look Knicks’ offense.
In 23 games with the New York Knicks last season, Anunboy averaged 14.1 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.8 threes per game on 48.8% from the field and 39.4% from three-point range. In three games against the Celtics, Anunoby averaged 10.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.0 threes per game on 41.9% shooting and 40.0% from deep.
While his mark is most felt on the defensive end, Anunoby’s three-point shooting can’t be overlooked. With so much offensive quality between Brunson, Towns, and Bridges, Anunoby will benefit from their playmaking – particularly from three-point range.
