In Game 5 of the Sacramento Kings versus the Golden State Warriors, Stephen Curry scored 31 points, including a clutch three-point play late in the game, to help the Warriors earn a 123-116 victory and a 3-2 lead in the series. Draymond Green also had a big game scoring 21 points and dishing out seven assists, while Klay Thompson contributed 25 points. The Warriors won their NBA-record 28th straight playoff series road game and will now look to close out the series with a fourth consecutive win at home.
Despite the loss, Sacramento's De'Aaron Fox played with an injured finger on his shooting hand and scored 24 points. Malik Monk and Domantas Sabonis added 21 points each for the Kings, who will need a win in Game 6 to stay alive. Although Sacramento made a big push in the fourth, they could surmount the deficit, and the Warriors sealed the win with some clutch plays down the stretch.
With their experience in big games and championship pedigree, the Warriors showed their road grit that had been missing during the regular season. Head coach Steve Kerr praised the team's poise and ability to make big plays when it mattered most. The Warriors now have the opportunity to advance to the second round with a win in Game 6 on their home court.
The Golden State Warriors controlled the pace of play from the tip, hitting 50 field goals on 52.1% compared to Sacramento's 42 on 46.7% from the field. The Warriors' offensive efficiency was critical, as they committed just 15 turnovers on the night compared to Sacramento's 19.
Despite the size advantage, the Sacramento Kings were beaten in the paint, scoring 56 to 60.
Despite that, rebounding was almost level, with the Warriors collecting 43 on the night while the Kings gathered 44. It was also tight on the offensive glass, with Golden State collecting 11 and Sacramento collecting 12.
Three-point shooting was not a strength of either team in Game 5. The two teams combined to shoot 21 of 72 from three-point range, with the Warriors getting the edge from deep by just one. Klay Thompson led all shooters with five made threes.
The Golden State Warriors lead the series 3-2 against the Sacramento Kings and can close the series on their home court. De'Aaron Fox's play bolstered the Sacramento Kings through injury, but the Golden State Warriors' three-headed attack of Curry, Thompson, and Green was too much to handle. The Warriors have won both home games this series, and the odds are in their favor.
The Sacramento Kings were one of the league's solid road teams. They have a road ATS Record of 28-15-0 and cover the spread 65.1% of the time. They have a 1.5-point margin of victory on the road while covering the spread by +1.4 on average. Through 41 regular season road games, the Kings went 25-16.
The Golden State Warriors are one of the league's top home teams, owning one of the best home records in the association at 33-8. They own a home ATS Record of 28-14-1, covering the spread 66.7% of the time at Chase Center. The Warriors have an average margin of victory of 8.0 points at home while covering the spread by an average of 2.4 points.
Sacramento Kings ATS Record: 47-39-1
The Sacramento Kings have no option but victory after their last game. Down 2-3 in the series and on the road, Sacramento must find success to earn a seventh game on their home court.
In their Game 5 loss, the Kings scored 116 points on 46.7% from the field and 29.4% from three. Their biggest issue was ball security, as Sacramento committed 19 turnovers on the evening - with the Warriors scoring 14 points off those turnovers.
Their offense isn't an issue, but the Sacramento Kings need to limit the Warriors if they hope to earn a Game 7. The star pair of De'Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis combined for 45 points, 17 rebounds, and 13 assists on 45.0% shooting from the field while committing 11 turnovers. Malik Monk contributed off the bench with 21 points and five rebounds.
Golden State Warriors ATS Record: 41-45-1
The Golden State Warriors own a 3-2 series lead over the Sacramento Kings, and with home-court advantage, the odds are certainly in their favor for Game 6. Having won three games in a row, the Warriors look set to advance to the second round with a win.
Game 5 saw the Warriors score 123 points on 52.1% from the field and 28.9% from the field.
Despite their poor outside shooting, Golden State maintained their excellent passing play, 33 assists, while committing just 14 turnovers on the night. The Warriors found their success in the paint instead, outscoring the Kings by four in the paint.
If their offense stays locked in, the Kings have little to slow them down. The four-time champion trio of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green led the way with 77 points, 16 assists, and eight rebounds on 55.6% from the field combined. Kevon Looney was also dominant on the glass, leading the game with 22 rebounds.
Spread: Golden State Warriors -7.5 (-110)
