Jazz vs. Lakers Prediction and Odds for February 10: Doncic to Debut in Purple and Gold

Published February 10, 2025
6 min read

The Utah Jazz (12-39) will visit the City of Angels for a showdown with the Los Angeles Lakers (31-19) on Monday night.

The story of the evening is the expected Lakers debut of Luka Doncic, the 25-year-old Slovenian superstar who was acquired in a trade with the Dallas Mavericks for Anthony Davis and Max Christie. Doncic is expected to be joined on the court by LeBron James, who did not play over the weekend, and Austin Reaves, who dropped 45 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists in his last game.

On the other side, the Jazz lost by 20 points to the other Los Angeles team, the Clippers, two days ago. They play a very youthful lineup but are struggling to generate wins, though they’ll have a huge opportunity to play spoiler tonight.

Here, we will preview the highly-anticipated matchup and share our favorite Jazz vs. Lakers betting picks.

Jazz vs. Lakers Betting Odds for Monday, February 10

The Jazz are 26-25 (51 percent) against the spread, 15-13 (53.6 percent) ATS on the road, and 26-24 (52 percent) ATS as an underdog.

The Lakers are 27-22-1 (55.1 percent) ATS, 15-9 (62.5 percent) ATS at home, and 14-13-1 (51.9 percent) ATS as a favorite.

Jazz vs. Lakers Prediction

Jazz vs. Lakers Prediction

Utah Jazz Preview

The Jazz didn’t make the playoffs the last two years and are headed toward their third straight year without postseason action and their worst record during that period.

The Jazz won two of their last five games, which is actually solid form for them. At the same time, they lost 19 of their last 24 games.

They played the Lakers close in their two previous matchups, losing by six points on the road on Nov. 19 and by one point at home on Dec. 1. The main difference between then and now is that Collin Sexton has been lost to a sprained ankle, while Lauri Markkanen will be available after recent bouts with injuries.

Utah ranks 24th in offensive and 22nd in defensive rating with a -4.7 net rating (23rd) in 2025. They’re also 22nd in offensive and 30th in defensive rating with a -7.2 net rating (28th) for the year.

Notably, there were not any real differences between the team’s level of play at home and on the road.

An area the Jazz have a significant advantage in is on the glass. Their huge lineup that includes Walker Kessler, John Collins, and Markkanen helped them rank second in rebound rate, while the Lakers really only have one center, Jaxson Hayes, in their rotation.

It’s easy to assume that Utah’s horrific defensive numbers are a result of bad perimeter defense, but that isn’t the case. They rank 11th in three-point percentage allowed, but they allowed the third-highest two-point percentage and are in the bottom 10 in free-throw attempts conceded per game.

Los Angeles Lakers Preview

Where do we start with the Lakers?

They won five straight and 11 of their last 13 games and are playing at arguably the highest level in the league over the last few weeks. Reaves just joined a historic list of Lakers with 45/7/7 that includes Elgin Baylor, Jerry West, Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant, and LeBron James. And they rejected a trade for Mark Williams they agreed to before the trade deadline, meaning they re-acquired Dalton Knecht and Cam Reddish after they shipped them off to Charlotte.

With all of that looming, the biggest headline for Monday’s action is Doncic’s debut. The reigning Finals runner-up averaged 28.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 7.8 assists and now gets to team up with the player who he patterned his game after, LeBron.

LA’s glaring lack of a starting-level center is a conversation for another day. With Luka and LeBron on the court, the Lakers should find an open shot nearly every trip down the court and become impossible to game plan against.

Adding an unstoppable offensive force amid the Lakers’ best stretch of the season is going to be scary for the rest of the league. Looking at their numbers since the turn of the year, they rank seventh in offensive and fifth in defensive rating with a +6.8 net rating (fifth).

The purple and gold are also ninth in offensive and 18th in defensive rating with a +0.6 net rating (13th) for the year overall, though that misrepresents their team due to the massive change in personnel.

A win tonight would put the Lakers back into fourth place in the Western Conference and either 0.5 or 1.5 games behind the Denver Nuggets for third, depending on what happens in their game with the suddenly scorching-hot Portland Trail Blazers.

Jazz vs. Lakers Betting Pick

Jazz vs. Lakers pick: Lakers -13.5 (-105) at BetMGM

There’s no doubt that the Lakers are the better team here. They’re also playing extremely well, with their list of recent results including wins over the Indiana Pacers, who had the best record in the league in 2025, the New York Knicks, the LA Clippers, the Boston Celtics, and more.

The Jazz can put the ball in the hoop and dominate the glass, but their abysmal defense has held them to less than one win for every four games played.

There’s concern that the Lakers will take time to form chemistry, but both James and Doncic have experience playing off the ball from their time as teammates with Kyrie Irving. We like the Lakers to blow the Jazz off the floor and start the Doncic era with a win and a cover.
