Hawks vs. Magic Prediction Odds

Atlanta Hawks vs. Orlando Magic Betting Pick

The Atlanta Hawks and the Orlando Magic open the Play-In Tournament with a fight for the seventh seed in the East Playoffs. The Magic covered the spread in their two victories against the Hawks this season despite a -1.3 points differential through four games. However, the Hawks are missing key players in the paint, and without their ideal rim defenders, the Magic project to dominate the paint on top of employing their league-best defense. Expect big games from Banchero and Young, but the Magic’s depth and quality should help them book their ticket to the NBA Playoffs.

Atlanta Hawks Preview

The Atlanta Hawks enter the first game of the NBA Play-In Tournament with eyes on earning an upset and claiming the seventh seed in the East Playoffs. Unfortunately, they’re missing several key contributors and will rely on playoff ace performer Trae Young to overcome the upstart Magic.

The Hawks find success behind their pace and offense, averaging 118.2 points per game (5th of 30) with 29.6 assists (2nd of 30). Despite Orlando’s vaunted defense, the Hawks have averaged 112.3 points in three games against them this season. Expect an up-and-down matchup, where the Hawks’ scoring efficiency will define their success.

The Atlanta Hawks were a toss-up against the spread throughout the regular season, posting a 41-41-0 ATS Record, ranking them 15th in the NBA. They have a 50.0% cover percentage, a -1.1 margin of victory, and a -0.1 ATS +/- this season.

He’s been recovering from an Achilles injury to close the regular season, but Trae Young will be the focus for Atlanta on Tuesday night. In 76 games this season, he’s averaged 24.2 points, 11.6 assists, and 2.9 threes per game on 41.1% from the field and 34.0% from three. He went 1-2 against the Magic this season and averaged 28.3 points, 8.0 assists, and 2.6 threes per contest on 44.6% shooting in that matchup.

Orlando Magic Preview

The Orlando Magic expect to have as full a complement as possible come Tuesday night, as injuries have hampered them all season. Paolo Banchero will take the lead on the offensive side of the ball, but their vaunted defense must be prepared to take on one of the paciest offenses in the NBA.

The Magic own the NBA’s top-ranked defense, allowing just 105.5 points per game (1st of 30) while forcing 16.2 turnovers (2nd of 30) and holding their opponents to 11.4 threes per contest (1st of 30). They went 2-2 against the Hawks this season, forcing 15.0 turnovers per game and allowing 46.5% shooting and 36.5% from three.

The Orlando Magic suffered their ups and downs this season, posting a 40-41-1 ATS Record and ranking 16th in the league. They have a 49.4% cover percentage, a -0.1 margin of victory, and a -1.1 ATS +/- this season.

Paolo Banchero took another jump in his career this season despite being limited by injury. In 46 regular season games, Banchero averaged 25.9 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 1.9 threes per contest on 45.2% from the field and 32.0% from three. This season, he was excellent against the Hawks, averaging 33.3 points, 8.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 3.0 threes per game on 46.5% shooting and 37.5% from deep.
