The Boston Celtics remain the favorites to win the East through their first seven regular season games. Just behind them are the New York Knicks, who have bounced back after a rocky start. After an impressive showing to open the season, the undefeated Cavaliers join the top three in the odds table. The Boston Celtics have started where they left off last season as one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference. They’re 6-1 through the first two weeks of the season, with wins over critical rivals like the New York Knicks and Milwaukee Bucks. Jayson Tatum leads the way for Boston with 30.3 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 4.6 assists. Dominating teams with a +11.7 points differential, the Celtics remain in a different class to their opponents this season.

The New York Knicks got off to a shaky start this season, but they’ve found their form as they enter the third week of the 2024-25 campaign. They’ve taken care of the lower-tier teams they’ve come across, but losses to the Celtics and Cavaliers have many considering their place among the elite. As expected, Jalen Brunson leads the Knicks with 25.4 points, 5.6 assists, and 2.6 threes per game. However, the new acquisition of Karl-Anthony Towns has adjusted quickly, posting 22.2 points and 11.2 rebounds in five games. With four of their next nine games on the road, the Knicks must buckle down and find results if they aim to stay at the top in the East.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have gotten off to a hot start, going undefeated through their first seven games. Sitting atop the East standings, the Cavaliers have impressive wins over the Knicks, Lakers, Magic, and Bucks in the early season. Donovan Mitchell is in excellent form to start the season, averaging 24.4 points, 4.3 assists, and 3.1 threes per game on 50.0% shooting. Their early trials bode well for the Cavaliers’ following games, as they take on a diverse group of competitors and noncompetitors as they make their way through November.

2024 NBA Playoffs:
East First Round: NYK def. PHI 4-2
The Philadelphia 76ers have struggled through the early parts of the 2024-25 NBA season. While Tyrese Maxey has been in fine form, they have yet to field stars Joel Embiid and Paul George. Going 1-4 through their first five games, it’s clear the Sixers are severely lacking without at least one of their top-billed stars in the lineup. They begin the third week of the regular season on a three-game road trip while playing five of their next eight away from home. There are hopes that one of George or Embiid will return to the lineup, and the Sixers don’t want to be buried in too a deep hole to overcome to begin the season.

2024 NBA Playoffs:
East First Round: IND def. MIL 4-2
Six games into the season, the Milwaukee Bucks are in trouble. Winning just one of their first six games, the Bucks have opened the season poorly. Antetokounmpo and Lillard combine for 57.2 points per game, but the rest of the Bucks struggle to break double-digit scoring production in each match. While they’ve struggled, the Antetokounmpo-led team has held firm in the odds table as the public sees a simple turnaround with Giannis. The following two weeks will be spent contemplating Milwaukee’s place in the conference.
