NBA Eastern Conference Winner - My Pick

The Boston Celtics may not be in the lead for the Eastern Conference right now, but their quality is undeniable. A veteran-led outfit that has improved production from its role players, the Celtics are a team built for competing in the postseason. While Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown lead the way for the Celtics, their supporting cast and head coach have been central to their early title defense.

  • Key Losses: Oshae Brissett

The Boston Celtics have maintained their place in the Eastern Conference for much of the season thanks to a strong start and consistent play. Since the beginning of December, they’ve posted a 5-1 record, including important victories over Eastern Conference contenders. Their offense has been a key factor, highlighted by a steady three-point attack led by Jayson Tatum. Over their last six games, the team has averaged 18.8 made three-pointers per game while shooting 35.9% from beyond the arc. While their bench plays a big factor in their success, Joe Mazzulla has found that empowering their play rather than seeking raw production has allowed all parties to thrive.

The New York Knicks have started to build some momentum in December, winning four of their last six games and narrowing the gap between them and the Celtics in the Eastern Conference standings. Benefiting from a manageable schedule, they picked up solid wins against the Magic, Hornets, and Raptors. Although defensive consistency remains an area of concern, the offense, led by Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns, has been productive. Over this six-game stretch, the Knicks have averaged 111.7 points per game while shooting 49.6% from the field and 39.4% from beyond the arc. With four games in six days coming up, the Knicks will see one of their toughest tests of the season.

Still at the top of the Eastern Conference, the Cleveland Cavaliers remain the standard through the early regular season. They have gone 4-1 over the past two weeks, holding their opponents to 106.0 points per game on 45.1% from the field and 30.7% from three-point range. They’ve had a relatively beneficial schedule, but an impressive win over the Denver Nuggets highlighted their week. While Cleveland has been balanced in their production this season, Donovan Mitchell can improve on a period where he put up 19.4 points, 6.4 assists, and 4.6 rebounds per game.

  • Key Players: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Damian Lillard, Khris Middleton

  • Key Additions: Gary Trent Jr., Delon Wright, Taurean Prince

  • Key Losses: Malik Beasley, Patrick Beverley, Jae Crowder

The Milwaukee Bucks have picked up the pace after a disappointing start to the season. Back over the .500 mark with a positive run to the Emirates NBA Cup Final, the Bucks have reclaimed a season many thought was lost. Going 4-2 over the last two weeks, the Bucks faltered against the Hawks and Celtics in regular season play before heading to the Emirates NBA Cup knockout phase. If they hope to compete for the East, the Bucks must earn statement victories over their rivals in the conference.

Who Is the Dark Horse to Win the 2025 NBA Eastern Conference?

  • Head Coach: Jamahl Mosley

  • Key Players: Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner, Jalen Suggs

  • Key Additions: Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Tristan Da Silva, Cory Joseph

  • Key Losses: Markelle Fultz, Joe Ingles

The Orlando Magic have had an eventful start to the regular season. While they’ve been one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference, they’ve also been ravaged by injury as the schedule has worn on. The Magic are 2-4 over the past two weeks, with wins over the Suns and Sixers, while they’ve dropped games to the Knicks and Bucks. With Banchero and Wagner out of the lineup, the Magic can’t be looked at as the final product, but it’ll be an interesting test to see how Jamahl Mosley and his squad manage without their star men available.
