The Dallas Mavericks are a formidable team, but the Celtics’ two-way potential is high. Dallas may be able to score with Boston, but the Celtics have the defensive edge. We expect a high-scoring game.

Celtics head coach Brad Stevens has shown himself more than capable of managing a squad of lesser-known players to success. However, the Celtics’ current lack of depth, along with new contributors, are failing them defensively.
In their last game, an overtime loss to the Pelicans, the Celtics were outscored by 13 in the fourth quarter. Forcing overtime, where they eventually lost the game.
In order to beat Dallas, Boston needs a concentrated defensive effort for all four quarters. They are certainly missing Marcus Smart, but as young leaders, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown can’t lead the Celtics on just the offensive end.
The Dallas Mavericks are dependent on Luka Doncic to a fault. While he is a brilliant player, their inability to create without him on the court is an issue.
In their last match against the Portland Trail Blazers, Doncic had nine assists. The only Mavericks near to him in the assist column were Josh Richardson and Trey Burke with three each.
With Porzingis likely unavailable for this game, so the Mavericks will need to find more from the likes of Brunson, Richardson, and Burke.

Jaylen Brown has emerged as an impressive scoring threat for the Boston Celtics. However, to beat the Mavericks, efficiency is just as important.
In his last game against the Pelicans, Brown had 25 points, nine assists, and six rebounds. Despite an impressive scoring line, he was just seven of 23 from the field.
In order to take down the Mavericks, Brown can’t afford to be wasteful with his opportunities. He’ll need to be just as productive on the defensive side as he is on offence.

Luka Doncic may be a humble young man, but his game is anything but humble. An All-Star starter and one of the most prolific players in the NBA, Doncic’s success is equal to the Mavericks’.
In his last game, a loss against the Trail Blazers, Doncic posted 44 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds.
He’ll be depended on even more than usual to beat the Trail Blazers. Against one of the league’s more solid defences, he should be able to find his offence. But creating for his teammates will be just as important.
