NBA Player Props and Best Bets for January 3: Best NBA Betting Picks and Players to Watch

The NBA is here to close out the first week of the New Year, and we’ve got the best betting picks and player props from around the league.

The Boston Celtics survived a close encounter with the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday, while the new-look Brooklyn Nets shocked the Milwaukee Bucks in Wisconsin.

Here are our best player prop bets for the NBA on Friday.

Best NBA Prop Bets for Friday, January 3

Jakob Poeltl Under 22.5 Points+Rebounds (-113) at FanDuel

Poeltl easily averaged more than this line with 15 points and 10.9 rebounds per game. However, he went under this line in six straight games and had a few games with lower minutes played recently, including 22 on Dec. 16 and 27 twice on Dec. 12 and Dec. 29. 

The Orlando Magic allowed the second-fewest points per game and are coming off a month in which they allowed less than 38 rebounds per game, by far the fewest in the league. Poeltl played a game against the Los Angeles Clippers, a similar type of opponent that ranks fourth in rebounds and fifth in points allowed per game, and only had 17 total.

Scotty Pippen Jr. Under 3.5 Rebounds (-113) at FanDuel

Pippen Jr. went under this line in six of his last eight games and, despite a slew of injuries to his teammates, played 24 minutes or fewer in five straight games. He also only had one rebound in 15 minutes in his only meeting this season with the Sacramento Kings.

The Kings rank sixth in rebounds allowed per game and kept three straight opponents to 36 or fewer rebounds, which would easily put them on pace to lead the league. To make it even better, Sacramento allowed the fourth-fewest rebounds per game to opposing point guards.

Jalen Green Under 27.5 Points+Rebounds+Assists (-104)

Green went under this line in four of his last five games, including Wednesday’s matchup with the Dallas Mavericks during which he cashed the under despite scoring 22 points. Now, he gets to face a Boston Celtics team that is chock-full of long, versatile defenders that will make it tough for him to make an impact.

The Celtics rank fifth in assists and sixth in points allowed per game. They’re only 19th in rebounds allowed per game but Green only averaged 4.5 boards and had five or fewer in five straight games. He also shot an inefficient 42.9 percent from the field and 32.6 percent from three in December.

Spencer Dinwiddie Under 4.5 Assists (+122) at FanDuel 

Let’s start by saying the Cleveland Cavaliers rank eighth in assists allowed per game and were even better in December, checking in at third with just 23.5 assists allowed per game. They also held opponents to 43.8 percent shooting in December, which ranked third and severely limited the amount of assist opportunities for their opponents.

Dinwiddie went under in five of his last six games and only played 24 minutes in his last outing, leading to just two assists. Without Luka Doncic on the court, it will be tough for a player that could be headed in the wrong direction minutes-wise to find success against a stingy defense.

Alexandre Sarr Over 18.5 Points+Rebounds (-113) at FanDuel

Sarr is starting to find some comfort in the NBA, scoring double-digit points in 10 straight games and making multiple three-pointers in seven of his last eight games (while shooting 50 percent or better in six of those seven). He also grabbed 10 boards in his last game and averaged 13.8 points and 6.3 rebounds in December.

The New Orleans Pelicans are 26th in points and 28th in rebounds allowed per game. The Wizards are also terrible on defense and play at a fast pace, which suggests this could turn into a high-scoring affair that feeds into a variety of overs.
