Martin almost won Eastern Conference Finals MVP during his matchup with the Boston Celtics a year ago, so asking him to raise his level of play isn’t anything he hasn’t done before. He brought down four, five, four, and four rebounds in his last outings, so he’s been right on the door of hitting the over.
Erik Spoelstra is one of the best coaches in the league and will come to Game Two with a variety of schematic changes designed to disrupt the Celtics’ high-flying offense. With any luck, Boston’s shooting percentage will come down, and Martin will have more opportunities to crash the glass and cash the over.

White has a huge role to play in this series. Much the same way Bill Belichick is known for taking away an opposing team’s best offensive player during the postseason, Spoelstra is going to scheme up ways to take Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Kristaps Porzingis out of their flow. That should leave White in several spots where he’s the guy with the open shot after a series of passes, and he’ll need to know down those looks.
The 29-year-old scored 20 points on 4-8 (50 percent) shooting from three-point territory in Game One. He was quiet to finish the regular season but will play a ton of minutes as the series progresses and is the type of player who can be counted on to take shots in big moments.

The figurative and literal “biggest” takeaway from Game One of the New Orleans Pelicans-Oklahoma City Thunder matchup is that OKC cannot stop Valanciunas from dominating the paint. The big Lithuanian is simply stronger and heavier than anyone on the Thunder, including the impressive Chet Holmgren.
Valanciunas collected 20 boards in 29 minutes during his team’s 94-92 loss on Sunday. The Thunder only ranked 28th in rebound rate for the season as a whole and regularly switched smaller defenders onto opposing big men, but they can’t afford to do that with the level of dominance Valanciunas showed in that opening half-hour.

Giddey doesn’t appear to have much of a place in this series. He only played 20 minutes in Game One after averaging 25.2 during the regular season, and he finished with just two points on 1-6 shooting. The Pelicans are a long, physical, and aggressive defensive team, and have personnel to guard just about anybody, including Giddey.
The 21-year-old hit the under in three of his last four games and is not the player OKC needs on the court to unlock the Pels’ airtight defense. Instead, look for them to play shooters such as Isaiah Joe or Cason Wallace during times when Giddey would normally be on the court.
Just like Valanciunas, Nance’s importance in this series was felt in Game One. He played 19 minutes and managed to grab eight boards, outperforming his season average of 5.0 in 19.9 minutes. He has now hit the over in three of his last four games and played well enough to potentially earn himself even more minutes in Game Two.
Nance’s importance to the Pelicans comes from his ability to play defense at the level or even switch onto smaller perimeter players, which Valanciunas cannot do. He got the clutch-time minutes in Game One and will likely be in those types of situations moving forward because of his versatility.
