What is the 2025 NBA All-Star Game Format?

The NBA unveiled a new format for the 2025 All-Star Game on December 17, 2024, introducing a four-team tournament-style competition, echoing the structure of the Rising Stars Challenge. 

Each team consists of eight players. The first three teams were drafted from the traditional All-Star pool by NBA on TNT analysts Charles Barkley, Shaquille O'Neal, and Kenny Smith, who will serve as honorary general managers, leading Team Chuck, Team Shaq, and Team Kenny. The fourth team in the tournament is the winner of the Rising Stars Challenge, with Candace Parker acting as their honorary general manager, for Team Candace. 

Each game in the tournament will be a race to 40 points, hoping to add an intense, fast-paced element to the All-Star festivities.

Team Shaq boasts the most traditional All-Star lineup in the competition, featuring some of the NBA's top stars from over two decades. The players that represent Team Shaq are among those who have built the league into its position today, and their quality makes them a heavy favorite to win the competition!

Leading the way for Team Shaq is his former teammate, 21-time All-Star LeBron James. He's joined by Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, and Jayson Tatum, some of the most impactful players in the current history of the NBA. It's truly a celebration of America's best basketball players, as all but Jaylen Brown have represented the USA on the Olympic stage and have won a gold medal.
