The Philadelphia 76ers (20-30) are preparing to take on the Detroit Pistons (25-26) in a matchup between two potential Play-In Tournament opponents on Friday night.
The Sixers lost three of their last four games but finally have Joel Embiid available for action. They also beat the Pistons by 15 points the last time they met in Detroit on Nov. 30.
The Pistons lost back-to-back games, having won or lost at least two straight games since Jan. 9. Despite just being one game below .500, they’re also 12-13 at home.
Here, we will preview the matchup and share our favorite 76ers vs. Pistons betting picks for Friday.
The 76ers are 19-29-2 (39.6 percent) against the spread, 10-13-1 (43.5 percent) ATS on the road, and 7-13 (35 percent) ATS as a favorite.
The Pistons are 26-23-2 (53.1 percent) ATS, 11-13-1 (45.8 percent) ATS at home, and 20-14-2 (58.8 percent) ATS as an underdog.

The Sixers need something to go their way. Whether it be injuries, poor performances, or failed luck on the trade market, a season that started with tons of potential has been reduced to a 20-30 record with less than 40 percent of the regular season remaining.
The Sixers dropped three of their last four and fell to the Miami Heat by seven points their last time on the court.
Embiid scored at least 28 points in five straight games and had a 29-point triple-double his last time on the court, but it took a month and a half for him to play those five games. Meanwhile, Tyrese Maxey scored 30+ points in seven straight games and has generated most of Philly’s offense, and he will be happy to have his MVP teammate back on the floor.
Philly is 15th in offensive and 29th in defensive rating since the turn of the year, leading to a 7-13 record and -4.3 net rating (24th). It’s also 20th in offensive and 23rd in defensive rating with a -3.6 (23rd) net rating for the season overall.
The Sixers have actually found slightly more success on the road than they did at home thus far, though they’re still only 10-14 outside of their arena.
An area of extra importance in this matchup will come on the glass. The Pistons are sixth in rebound rate, while the Sixers are dead last in the whole league. Embiid also averaged just 8.1 rebounds per game, his fewest since he averaged 7.8 in 25.4 minutes per night as a rookie.

The Pistons finally did it! They became a respectable basketball team!
Let’s take a look at the Pistons’ record in recent years…
2023-24: 14-68
2022-23: 17-65
2021-22: 23-59
2020-21: 20-52
2019-20: 20-46
At one game away from .500, this is borderline uncharted territory for the Detroit organization. Credit for the turnaround can be shared by a few veteran free-agent acquisitions, the continued development of All-Star Cade Cunningham, and the influence of coach J.B. Bickerstaff, who helped develop the Cleveland Cavaliers into what they are today.
The Pistons have playmaking, shooting, athleticism, and rebounding all on their roster. Their ceiling depends heavily on the progression of players such as Ausar Thompson and Ronald Holland II, but they are already just one game behind the Miami Heat for the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference.
The Pistons rank 18th in offensive and sixth in defensive rating in 2025, resulting in a record of 11-8 and a net rating of +2.3 (11th). That’s in contrast to their season numbers of 15th in offensive rating, 12th in defensive rating, and 17th in net rating (-1.0).
Cunningham is fresh off a 38-point, nine-assist, seven-rebound performance in a loss to the Cavs that came at the buzzer. He and his teammates have not shot the ball well lately (26th in three-point percentage over the last 10 games - 32.4 percent), which is even more of a testament to their defense since they’ve still found ways to come up with W’s.
The Pistons were outscored by an average of 1.5 points per 100 possessions in their building. Although they lost their last matchup with the Sixers, they beat them by 10 points on the road near the start of the season.
They haven’t seen Embiid yet this season, and they’re 25th in points allowed to opposing centers per game.

76ers vs. Pistons pick: Pistons +3.5 (-110) at BetMGM
The Sixers have the potential to be a strong team because of the trio of Maxey, Embiid, and Paul George, but they simply haven’t come close to hitting those heights whether they were or weren’t on the court together.
The Pistons, meanwhile, are a scrappy and well-coached team that does a lot of things well. Cunningham is also playing at an elite level, though he has a tough matchup with the red-hot Maxey.
Philly is favored here, but that isn’t fair for what Detroit did this season. We like the Pistons to cover and win outright on their home floor.
